Zephyr Unveils ITX-sized Sakura Blizzard RTX 4070 Graphics Card

PC enthusiasts who crave powerful graphics in compact systems have a new option from Zephyr. The Chinese manufacturer has launched the world's first ITX-sized GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card. Dubbed the Sakura Blizzard, this GPU packs NVIDIA's AD104-250 chip and 12 GB of GDDR6X memory into a footprint of just 172 x 123 x 42 mm. While slightly taller than standard PCIe brackets, the two-slot cooler should fit most Mini-ITX cases. The card's cute pink shroud and solitary cooling fan give it a unique aesthetic. But don't let the pink looks fool you - Zephyr claims this compact powerhouse can keep the GPU and memory up to 10°C cooler than some dual-fan RTX 4070 designs, which needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Thermal testing videos show the fan spinning at 2,400 RPM to maintain GPU temperatures around 73°C under load in a 25°C room. Meanwhile, synthetic benchmarks reportedly demonstrate no performance compromises versus full-sized RTX 4070 implementations.

Zephyr's initial production run has already sold out in China. However, a second batch is slated for mid-July availability to meet the apparent higher demand for small form factor RTX 40-series GPUs. The launch comes just weeks after NVIDIA unveiled new "SFF-ready" design guidelines at Computex 2024. As the power-hungry RTX 40 lineup hit the market, many voiced concerns over the cards' ever-growing dimensions. NVIDIA's renewed SFF PC focus signal options like the Sakura Blizzard could become more common. For space-constrained enthusiasts, having top-tier GPU muscle in a properly-cooled Mini-ITX card is a big win. Zephyr's ITX-sized RTX 4070 shows powerful things can come in small packages, and we hope more manufacturers follow this philosophy.

B650 Chipset and Micro-ATX Form-factor Dominate Socket AM5 Motherboard Sales: Research

A market research of AMD Socket AM5 motherboards sold in South Korea by Danawa, provide some interesting insights on how gamers approach the platform. This research is confined to Korea, but can be extrapolated to other similar markets. The research studies the chipset model, and form-factor of Socket AM5 motherboards sold in the market. The most interesting finding of the research is that the AMD B650 is by far the most popular chipset for the platform, dwarfing even the entry-level A620 chipset by a factor of 8. A staggering 80% of the Socket AM5 motherboards being sold are based on the B650.

It's important to note here, that this figure does not include the B650E, which is separately shown making up just 2% of the volumes. The B650 (non-E) has nearly all platform features, with motherboards based on the chipset providing at least one Gen 5 M.2 NVMe slot that doesn't eat into the lanes of the x16 PEG slot; and with the current generation of GPUs not featuring the PCIe Gen 5 host interface, customers seem more than happy with the Gen 4 x16 PEG slot provided by B650 motherboards. What's more, you get CPU overclocking and memory overclocking on this mid-range chipset, so it appeals to a very wide demographic. The B650E, on the other hand, provides a Gen 5 x16 PEG slot, and motherboards based on this chipset tend to offer premium I/O features, such as a high-end onboard audio solution, premium wireless networking, among others.

MAXSUN Showcases Unique Mini-ITX Motherboard and Other Models at Computex 2024

MAXSUN's brand and products might not be well-known in the West, however, in Asia and China they have built a solid reputation over the years. It offers products such as motherboards and graphics cards that strike a good balance between price, performance, and build quality. MAXSUN might lack the capacity to manufacture in large volumes, however some of their products are perfectly capable of performing on par with similar mid-range models from top-tier brands like Gigabyte or ASUS, all at a lower price, making them an option to consider for users on tight budgets.

At this year's Computex, MAXSUN showcased a diverse range of motherboard models in various form factors for both Intel and AMD platforms. Our attention was drawn to four models supporting Intel CPUs: the unique MS-Terminator B760BKB D5, MS-Terminator H770YTX D5 WIFI, the surprisingly beautiful MS-iCraft B760M CROSS, and what seems to be one of the MS-Terminator Next-Gen motherboard for Intel Arrow Lake-S.

ssupd Shows FANTASY Daisy-Chained Fans and XHUTTLE Case for Both Vertical and Horizontal Builds

ssupd, Lian Li's sister brand, is making an appearance at Computex 2024 with the launch of its newest FANTACY fan series and the XHUTTLE ATX case. The FANTACY fans are ssupd's first foray into the system fan market, and they come packed with a few features. Utilizing a magnetic series connection system, up to seven FANTACY fans can be daisy-chained together, minimizing cable clutter. While seven fans can be connected, SSUPD recommends using a maximum of six for optimal performance. One of the standout features of the FANTACY fans is their double-sided annular halo design. Each fan has two independently controllable LED rings, allowing users to create unique lighting effects on the front and back of the fans. The fans' matte and transparent sides ensure that the lighting effects are visible from all angles.

Jonsbo Brings Innovative and Elegant SFF Cases to Computex 2024

Jonsbo brought several innovative cases to the 2024 Computex. The N5 is a dream case for those planning to build a graphics rendering farm. The horizontally partitioned cube-shaped case features an airy upper chamber with room for an E-ATX motherboard, which is shown in the example build to have four lateral-blower graphics cards; while the lower compartment has room for as many as twelve 3.5-inch drives, enough to store all your lossless assets. You can install graphics cards up to 35 cm in length, and CPU coolers up to 16 cm in height. The lower front panel is detachable without tools, so you can access the HDDs.

The T6 is an SFF case fit for Mini-ITX and Mini-DTX builds. It measures 185 mm x 223 mm x 332 mm (WxDxH), and comes with a detachable wood handle. A portion of the front panel is finished in a matching tone of wood. There's room inside for graphics cards up to 21.5 cm in length, and CPU coolers up to 16 cm in height. Drive bays include two 2.5-inch mounts. The C6-ITX is a slightly expanded variation on the same theme, except with more clearances. The case measures 202 mm x 266 mm x 295 mm, with room for graphics cards up to 25.5 cm in length, and CPU coolers up to 17 cm in height. It comes with a Nylon strap handle.

PCCooler Power Supplies, Coolers, and Cases at Computex 2024

PCCooler may seem like a new brand, but is at least 13 years old in the market now, with its claim to fame being the air+liquid CPU cooler from 2011. The company brought plenty of gear to its 2024 Computex booth. There are at least four PSU series, mostly covering mainstream, mid-range, and the performance segments of the market. The KF series is at the entry-level, and features fixed cabling, along with 80 Plus (baseline) efficiency. This sticks to the older ATX 2.53 standard. The YK series is the company's most affordable PSU series to meet ATX 3.1 and PCIe Gen 5.1 specs. You get fixed cabling here, too, including a fixed 12V-2x6 on some of the higher wattage models (750 W and above); but with 80 Plus Bronze efficiency. The YN series is a notch above, with capacities of up to 1000 W, ATX 3.1 + PCIe Gen 5.1, Cybenetics Gold switching efficiency, and Cybenetics A- acoustics. The YS series is on the top, with wattages going up to 1200 W. Both the YN and YS include a 600 W-rated 12V-2x6 connector.

Maxsun Puts the PCIe x16 Slot on the Back of its Latest B760 Mini-ITX Motherboard

We've seen a lot of motherboards with the power, SATA and USB connectors on the rear at Computex this year, but Chinese Maxsun decided to put the PCIe x16 slot on the back of its Mini-ITX MS-Terminator B760BKB D5 motherboard. This might seem like a crazy move, but with the right chassis, this means that the graphics card won't need a PCIe extension cable, while fitting in a compact chassis. It's also become increasingly hard to retain signal integrity over ribbon cables and with PCIe 5.0, it might be impossible. Another added benefit of this design is that the board also has a PCIe 3.0 x4 slot available for something like a 10 Gbps network card or just about anything else you'd want to plug into a compact PC.

The overall board specs don't really stick out from the crowd, as the Intel B760 chips is a somewhat limiting factor as well. In addition to the PCIe 5.0 x16 slot and the PCIe 3.0 x4 slot, the board also has a pair of PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe slots—one on each side of the PCB—and a slim SAS connector using an SFF-8654 connector. In addition to this, the board also has two DDR5 DIMM slots, four SATA ports, a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port, a DP 1.2, an HDMI 2.0 port, a USB Type-C port of unknown speed and WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. The power design consists of a fairly basic 8+1+1 phase setup. We'd like to see this board design to become a standard, as it makes a lot of sense for the SFF market to allow for a better placement of the PCI x16 slot to allow for a more compact chassis without having to compromise on the choice of graphics card.

Radxa Launches NAS Friendly ROCK 5 ITX Motherboard with Arm SoC

Radxa is a Chinese manufacturer of various Arm based devices and something of a minor competitor to the Raspberry Pi Foundation. The company has just launched its latest product which is called the ROCK 5 ITX. As the name implies, it's a Mini-ITX form factor motherboard, which in itself is rather unusual for Arm based hardware to start with. However, Radxa has designed the ROCK 5 ITX to be a NAS motherboard and this is the first time we've come across such a product, as most Arm based boards are either intended for hobby projects, software development or routers. This makes the ROCK 5 ITX quite unique, at least based on its form factor, as it'll be compatible with standard Mini-ITX chassis.

The SoC on the board is a Rockchip RK3588 which sports four Cortex-A76 cores at up to 2.4 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8 GHz. This is not exactly cutting edge, but should be plenty fast enough for a SATA drive based NAS. The board offers four SATA 6 Gbps connectors via an ASMedia ASM1164 controller, each with an individual power connector next to it. However, Radxa seems to have chosen to use fan-header type power connectors, which means it'll be hard to get replacement power cables. The board also has a PCIe 3.0 x2 M.2 slot for an NVMe drive. The OS boots from eMMC and Radxa supports its own Roobi OS which is Debian Linux based.

Existence of Intel Meteor Lake-PS CPU Series Revealed in iBase MI1002 Datasheet

An intriguing offshoot of Intel's Meteor Lake generation of processors has been discovered by hardware sleuth momomo_us—an iBase MI1002 motherboard specification sheet contains references to a 14th Gen Core Ultra (Meteor Lake-PS) family, with a next-gen LGA1851 socket listed as the desktop platform. The industrial iBase Mini-ITX workstation board is "coming soon" according to a promotional image—this could signal a revival of Meteor Lake outside of laptop platforms. 2023 was a bit of a rollercoaster year for MTL-S SKUs (on socket LGA1851)—one moment Team Blue confirmed that it was happening, then a couple of days later it was disposed of. The upcoming Arrow Lake processor generation seems to be the logical taker of this mantle, but the (leaked) existence of Meteor Lake-PS throws a proverbial spanner into the works.

iBase's MTL-PS-ready boards will be niche "industrial/embedded" items—according to Tom's Hardware: "Intel hasn't officially revealed Meteor Lake PS, but given the "PS" designation, these upcoming processors target the IoT market, similar to Alder Lake PS. Therefore, it's safe to assume that Intel is bringing the mobile Meteor Lake processors to the LGA1851 socket...Although the motherboard has (this) socket, no chipset is present because Meteor Lake PS is the spitting image of the Meteor Lake chip and doesn't need a PCH." Team Blue is hyping up Arrow Lake (ARL-S) as its next-gen mainstream desktop platform, with a launch window set for later in 2024—by sharp contrast, Meteor Lake PS parts are highly unlikely to receive much fanfare upon release.

Changwang Releases MoDT Mini-ITX Motherboard for Ryzen 7000 Mobile Processors

Changwang has released an interesting looking Mobile on Desktop (MoDT) Mini-ITX motherboard in China—as spotted by HXL—for AMD Ryzen 7000 series mobile processors. The manufacturer has chosen to forego with a short plus catchy model name—Changwang's product page lays out the basic facts within the board's title. This a 170 x 170 mm compact form factor board that is NAS and storage oriented—with an AMD FP8 socket that accommodates Zen 3+ "Rembrandt" and Zen 4 "Phoenix" processors. At present, the only available options to purchase are Ryzen 7 7840HS configurations (with or without an air cooler). The specification sheet lists other processor options, including the recently launched "Hawk Point" Ryzen 7 8845HS model, as well as Ryzen 9 7940HS, Ryzen 7 7735HS (Zen 3+ Rembrandt), and Ryzen 5 7640HS.

You are limited to SODIMM (up to 5600 MT/s with the 7840HS config), due to Changwang choosing a mobile processor platform for a compact desktop motherboard that offers little in terms of upgradability. As pointed out by Tom's Hardware: "These motherboards with integrated Ryzen 7000 "Phoenix" processors might have been pretty killer a few months ago, but just days ago, AMD launched its Ryzen 8000G series APUs for the desktop, which use the same Phoenix chip that the Ryzen 7040HS chips use. Ryzen 8000G chips are a little faster, more customizable, and can be installed and upgraded like regular desktop chips, which are all significant points against Changwang's motherboard...However, when it comes to price, Changwang has the advantage. With a cost of 2888 RMB or about $400, the Ryzen 7 7840HS-equipped board looks pretty decent. A Ryzen 7 8700G retails for $329, and the cheapest AM5 Mini-ITX boards cost $130 at minimum (and come with the A620 chipset)." The Changwang board also offers an unprecedented number of interface options—its unique selling points include support for nine SATA drives, four 2.5 Gbit NICs, Thunderbolt 4, USB 4, PCIe Gen 4x4, etc.
