Addronics introduced a couple of external optical drives. The two, that look the same, are Blu-Ray/DVD-RW combo, and plain DVD-RW. Not much more than enclosures housing slim notebook drives, the two provide eSATA and USB 2.0 connections to the PC, while needing the USB port at least for power. The unit measures 143 x 135 x 22 mm.

DVD burning speeds offered for are 8x for DVD±R/+RW, 6x for DVD-RW/±R double-layer, 5x for DVD-RAM, and 24x for CD-R/RW. Backed by a one-year warranty, the Blu-Ray/DVD combo drive is priced at US $235, and the DVD-RW at $99.

Yes it does. Real USB speeds are still WAYYYYY faster than what a BluRay movie needs. BD movies only require 54Mbps read speeds.

i've got a USB BD drive in the house and it sucks badly. it stutters, and some movies wont play (most do, but some wont). i think its latency, not throughput that causes it.

I have a Lite On external USB BD Rom, and not a single stutter on any rig I've ever put it on. You either have a shitty enclosure, or there is something else otherwise wrong with the setup, perhaps even on the software side. (I use Power DVD 8 Ultra). Either way, it's not the fault of USB.

Well then it's USB controller sucks. Like I said, my external BD has not a single issue over USB. Not once, EVER.
