Here is what four AMD Cypress GPUs can achieve with some careful overclocking, without needing any third-party cooling. Renowned overclocker Kinc sent us details of his latest achievement using four ASUS Radeon HD 5870 1 GB cards installed in a 4-way CrossFireX setup, all overclocked, and cooled by AMD's reference cooler, taking a shot at 3DMark Vantage (Extreme Preset). The four cards returned a score of X26,332 points, with an average frame-rate of 79.49 fps in GT1, and 74.83 fps in GT2.

To begin with the cards were overclocked to 1035/1290 MHz, up from reference speeds of 850/1200 MHz (core/memory). This was supported by raising the vGPU to 1.330V using GPUTool, from 1.015V. The platform to drive this feat comprised of an Intel Core i7 965 XE processor, cooled by Intel's reference (boxed) cooler, clocked at 4257 MHz. To seat them all was an ASUS P6T7 WS SuperComputer motherboard. The feat serves as a prelude to what the future holds in two "Hemlock" accelerators, which make use of two Radeon HD 5870 GPUs each.

4 cards with a CPU at only 4200? Seems to me like the processor could use some more speed. It probably is bottlenecking the cards. Anyway, WOW

That's pretty extreme XD

Expensive setup pwoah. I think the gravy is in one of the Asus voltage tweak 5850's that should hit about the same speeds.

wow! stock air, nice! With that GPU horsepower, 4.2 on teh i7 bottlenecks the full potential.

Goddamn, cards need more COU juice behind it though

We're soon gonna have to finda a new game to joke about, cause i bet THOSE can run crysis... Sweet!

Unreal, thats just an awesome OC, wonder how that would fair against 5850's in CF.

temps for that OCed card must have been terrible.

Temps smemps, it ran the benchmark :p

I think I need to get one for myself and make up my mind of how effective the cooler really is. with its tiny opening I find reviews hard to believe when they boast it running cool and exceptionally quiet, and not all reviews are the same. dammit I have to buy one now :D talked myself right into it.

did anyone notice that the pixel fill rate and texture fill rate on that GPUz shot is way off as a matter of fact, those rates should be for stock clocks meaning he more than likely ran 3Dmark Vantage with stock clocks and then rammed up the GPU and memory clock after the tests were done which is why only the gpu and memory clock are different from a stock GPU-Z shot for this card, because with GPU-Z you have to exit then restart the program to see the rates change.

Wonder why is the memory bandwidth on GPU-Z there same as in stock clocks of 5870 while it's OC'd. Indeed quite hardcore setup for money aspect.

Never even ran Vantage before. :P How does this compare to Nvidia cards? Is that PhysX crap still factored into this score for a comparable Nvidia card?

that seems to be a gpuz bug .. i'll look into it

It would bottleneck 2 cards, but I am saving up for 2 and a new case anyway

You mean this guy invested over $1,600 in video cards and couldn't afford at least $80 for a decent aftermarket CPU cooler? :p I mean, if you plan to buy a Ferrari, you may as well have some extra change for the gas, don't you agree? Just kidding, I'm so envious, I'm pretty sure he'll come up with even more impressive benchmarks after getting some decent cooling for his killer setup :rockout:

HMMM impressive.

I think the scores are for real. My own tests with an asus card shows these speeds can be done with that voltage. Also, I know the software changes the voltage for multiple cards in CF. Why would he try to take it ? This saturday we'll be using three cards on a classified, cooling them with ln2. With possibly 2.0v they hopefully go a little faster then 1035MHz :D

holy c......... vantage is already outdated.... =]

hehehehehe give it to meeee!!!

Is it possible the cards are throtling down to standard speed, but GPU-Z is still showing the OC results? That's a huge increase in voltages and it's bound to heat those puppies really good. And dang i wanna know his PSU's brand :D

Very nice. It is great having a contender in the VC market. Now if AMD can once again spank Intel we might see a reasonable price for a high end Intel CPU.

Yeah, and it still did the same as my OCed 295. The temps still must have sucked. You think I don't see it ran the benchmark? :wtf:
