Acer released its newest PC display, the S243HLbmii. This 24 inch widescreen LCD display sports a futuristic design, and is only 14.5 mm thick. Some of its biggest selling points apart from the design include LED illumination that consumes a mere 17.2W during normal operation, a 65% reduction in energy consumption, compared to LCDs with conventional CFL illumination. The illumination isn't the conventional LED backlit either. The W-LED technology it uses provides a dynamic contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1 (static remains at 1,000:1), with a maximum brightness of 250 cd/m². The native screen resolution is 1920 x 1080, with a response time of 2 ms (GTG). Concealed in the frame, are the two 1W speakers. Display input connectivity includes D-Sub, and two HDMI connectors. It has started selling in Japan for 33,000¥ (240€).

Not bad for a 24".
Remember people, you can bring down the wattage of your monitor by simply lowering the brightness. My monitor itself received some bad reviews: "washed out colour", I've found that is only the case when the brightness is wrongly set.
So make sure you optimise the colour, contrast and brightness settings to get the best out of your hardware.

this surly looks like a killer monitor... and i cad deal with 65% energy reduction! LOL
any else think the price is crazy low compared to what this should go for?
and i wonder if this kind of screen can scale up to 30" and still keep the great price
by: manicdannot at 2ms refresh rate... unless they keep the same resolution - I havent seen any 30" with less than 5ms response and above 1080P. Makes me think there is a TFT TN technical limitation that they have yet to overcome.

i would like one with a digital/analog tv tunner and remote and 1920x1200 resolution
by: phanbueyI have a 24" with 2ms and my tv is 42". Side by side, there is absolutely no difference that the human eye can detect at all whatsoever, and if you say you do, it is a lie. The current panels in production are pretty much optimal in that aspect.

by: Mistralspeakers are good. lets you hook up consoles/set top HDTV tuners, etc i think they hid the cables/connectors in the stand, which is why its so thin - the panel section is thinner than an IEC power plug for the monitor, so it has to go into the base.

by: MusselsSpeakers good in a TVMonitor for you maybe sound quality i like would kill the TVmonitor if the speakers were attached to it... That said everyones ears are different. Kinda like the looks of it nice and sharp and again none of this melted look which looks like crap IMO. Seems like the sharper look is on the way back once again lol.

oh the inbuilts will always sound terrible - but they're there for convenience, not for quality.
EG i go to a lan, and i can take a 360 with me and use a HDMI port with audio, and have 4 people join in using the built in speakers. (FYI, regular speakers are not allowed at most LAN events)

by: steelkaneBecause most people don't need 5.1 surround or 7.1 or anything else. Just like most people don't need a Crossfire, or SLI rig. But ya having at least a cheap speaker solution is by far better than the ones built into the panel. Plus Mussels had a good point about LAN parties and not being allowed to bring external speakers.

I would like to take this opportunity to formally thank ACER for being honest and upfront and calling this an LED-ILLUMINATED display from the get-go, UNLIKE the Lying Cheating filthy bastards at SAMSUNG who insist on milking public ignorance and trying to FRAUD their TV's away calling them LED-TVs when they are far from it.

So remind me again what the point of a really thin screen is, if the base is so thick and deep, that the overall depth of the product, is just as long as an older, thicker bezel?
by: newconroernot much of one. it does LOOK a little better, but its no different really. i prefer the smaller base over the thinner panel, as it takes less space up on my desk.

I'm a fan of LEDs. They have a lot of potential, but i just don't think they are quite ready for the mass market yet, and for two reasons only. They have a still have a lot of room to grow as far as energy converted to light(induction lights are near 100% effecient.. but have other drawbacks) and because they are about three times as expensive as whatever competing light technology. Anyways, i give credit to Acer and their efficiency claims over "traditional fluorescent" not CCFLs.

(yes i know, 2 years old, but both technologies have grown at about the same rate)
LED's got three advantages right now
1. cheaper
2. brighter
3. thinner screens
even if it has other flaws swansen (please, list these drawbacks - i'm curious) they have enough good reasons to make them work in the market.

That looks very nice! Only bad thing is the price tag, which I guess isn't too bad for a 24" LED.

Looks like it was designed by an artichoke.
It doesn't look like it's even height adjustable.
Nice specs. The LED TV's I've seen at BB are good, but not worth the price differential.
