Intel's Core i7 LGA-1366 performance segment processors is in for another update, past the recent introduction of the Core i7 960 (3.20 GHz). The newest entry replaces the popular Core i7 920, and leverages the company's socket LGA-1366 platform as the ultimate high-performance desktop platform. The Core i7 930, like all processors in the Core i7 900 series, runs on motherboards with the Intel X58 Express chipset. The processor comes with a clock speed of 2.88 GHz. Assuming it retains the base frequency of 133 MHz, we're not entirely sure how 2.88 GHz is worked out with a bus multiplier value that is a whole number. Since the Core i7 930 replaces the i7 920, it is expected to seat itself at the same price point of $299. Since this release comes slightly ahead of that of Intel's "Gulftown" 6-core processor, in Q1 2010, it remains to be seen if this processor continues to be built on the 45 nm HKMG process, or the newer 32 nm one.

well i'm still intent on getting an i7 920 why? because i'm a cheapskate:laugh: and that was what i have had planned on getting for a while, although i'm still a little edgy over the reliablity of some of the 1366 x58 motherboards

Don't think so. Only i5 dual cores, and i9 6-core.

thank you Intel. :D

The 920 is the best i7 cpu by far. You only have to put a little oc on it and you get the same performance of a 950 but at the half price.

It would be sweet if they made it 32nm and dropped the TDP for this chip. They might just have a sure-fire winner like the Q6600 G0 if it still overclocks well.

Good thing I didn't build an i7/i5 computer, I'll just wait for the i9 which I heard that it's going to be very expensive ($1000+)

Be interesting to see if these are worth the upgrade. @ The Witcher, "Q6600 2.40 @ 3.2GHz (v13.8)" ... excuse me?

the poor guy, i get it at 1.29v, must run liquid n2o 24/7 XD. lol thk he has a lil typo in the specs :p

Its a no-derr answer that Intel will put this CPU on a 45nm, as thanks to how this year's prices on the i7 there's no way that they will charge a 32nm CPU for 300 bucks. Too good to be true is a well-known marketing look for hype like that. Besides, the Bloomfield chip has NOTHING PLANNED IN 32NM DIES!!!

I regret not going X3 720. I've never used above 10% of the i7's power. D:

For most people's needs.......nforce 2 still does the job. But we aren't "most people" :D Think I will buy another Q6600 and wait for 6 core goodness :)

same here. my q6600 at 3.2ghz works fine. When i had a HD 4870 for a while my Stalker ClearSky FPS were basically the same as w1z's results with his i7 at 3.8ghz. I personally think that for 1680x1050 or higher you really only need a solid c2q or phenom II x3 as at those res the load is on the gfx, any more cpu and its a waste or i suppose you could say futureproofing. Course some people benchmark(i don't) so that's where the difference is.

Im a bigger cheapskate than you, I got the xeon W3503 dual core... I beat the crap out of my Bloodrage GTI and it has been a champ so far.

i went from e6600 to q9550.. then q9550 to i7 920 and would do it again and again and again. nothing better than having a system that will do whatever you need it to when you need it to. perfection.
