ASRock has updated the BIOS of its H55M Pro socket LGA1156 motherboard to include a "Turbo 100" feature. The feature is designed to run with the entry-level Pentium Dual-Core G6950 processor, which overclocks it from 2.80 GHz to 4.20 GHz, with a turbo ratio of 100%. This, the company claims, provides a significant graphics performance boost (tabled below). I gotta say, I've been rather impressed with Asrock on current generation boards. I've owned a p55 Extreme and an x58 Extreme. Both of which were rock solid.

Thats a pretty wicked bump up in speed for them to put out there available to everyone running on the factory cooler. I cant seem to find any half decent reviews on this proc though.

Is this supposed to run on a default, Intel cooler? What would be a 100% Turbo temperature, 4,2 GHz at full load? I'm pretty curious...

Asrock is an underrated company. Yes, they have some cheapo budget boards, but then they also have some interesting stuff where they push the boundaries of how things are "supposed" to be used, e.g. their s775 and AGP board, or their s775 with sockets for both DDR and DDR2 RAM when DDR2 first came out but was very expensive. I think they also did a PCIx16 board for s478. And now this. They've got some good engineers at asrock, and they are ready to break conventional wisdom. :pimp:

I stressed the hell out of my old ASRock K7 board up until I upgraded, and it never let me down. I like ASRock and their crazy inventions <3 ~

I have old ASrock mobo, in which you can upgrade CPU socket :D It still works lol.

And they can guarantee a 50% overclock in all G6950 cpus? It sounds too risky, IMO. But then again, it's ASRock.

is for those who do not put much faith in Asrock ai t aela with their releases top.. ;)

no its just a bios option, not a guarantee. The same as any over overclocking type bios option really. Only this one is REAL easy if it works on the CPU you have, if it doesn't you just switch it off. Easy :D sounds great to me.

this is overclocking for dummies :) nice!

ts is the same as a BIOS that boasts unlocking a phenom X2 to an X4 not every chip can do it but for the ones it works on it really simplifies things. oh and asrock is just asus cheapened up for the masses

I think you forget the board with Both PCI-express and AGP, or the board with S939 upgradable to AM2, some even managed to get SLI out of an nvidia AGP & PCi-express card-set lol. Asrock really did some innovative 'crazy' things.

Yeah, I had that DS 2 (AGP and PCI-E at full speeds) and it was all good despite being a cheap board. It even pushed my a64 3000+ up to 2.7 Ghz for a little while (I could enter bios, but the cpu was never the same after that). :D

I'm not too knowledgeable about the 1156 and 1366's - someone educate me. Question: does the turbo boost only speed up 1 core or both cores? Question: in this particular bios action - does it only speed up for 3d or any crunching application? Question: Is turbo boost kind of like C1E then for 775 (drops to 6x multi on idle/surfing) and jumps up to full speed for apps (1 or 2 cores?)? Thanks guys.

intel doesnt have the need to release chips that run around 4Ghz because of the lack of competition. Asrock simply have exploited their capabilities :p

Other motherboard manufactures should take notice when it comes to stuff like this. ASRock seems to be constantly in the news when it comes to new and somewhat quirky features like this. Once you get past the unfortunate branding, I think ASRock has some decent stuff out there, at least on paper. Better stuff than most low-end or even mid-range ASUS hardware, which is interesting since ASRock was originally spun off from Asus. With that said, I think EVGA has the North American market pretty much taken care of (if amount of Newegg reviews is any sort of an indicator) but I wish them luck.

at least they should put good cooling in them mobo
