AMD announced the immediate availability of the AMD Phenom II X6 processor and AMD 890FX chipset ushering in a new era of immersive 3D entertainment and visualization. pity none of the board makers have released the BIOS updates for their AM2+ boards....


grrrr.

I've got a 785G here and i asked gigabyte, and they told me they dont know and cant know, because the CPU's arent out retail yet. good one giga, your AM3 boards have support dont they...

i showed that to my housemate (who just got an i7 930 system) and he still thinks intel is the better choice... cause his PSU and case are more expensive than the AMD systems is.

i lold.

Yeah that's nice and all, to have a complete 6 core PC for the same price as the competitors CPU. But then you can also look at reviews and it just so happens that that same $1099 CPU crushes that setup by a good 50% margin in those tasks where 6 cores can actually be fully used. And when 6 cores are not used the competitor's 4 core i750 is often times faster.

Amazing CPU and platform, I'm not saying the contrary, if I had to buy something now it would be this P2. It's just the PR BS that I don't like one bit.

Well to be fair they don't claim any superiority about the performance and 980x IS, currently, the only 6-core processor Intel has to offer for desktop market.

But they do have many quads that are just as fast and cost about the same, that's my point.

"A platform or a part...Which would you choose?"

They are somehow comparing them. Otherwise there's not even a point mentioning that. You can also build a complete system for the price of the 1090T CPU, but what's the point of mentioning that if you are not pretending to suggest they are going to be the same?

Note) If you install AMD AM3/AM2+ CPU on AM2 motherbord, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0(5200 MT/s) to HT1.0(2000 MT/s) spec; however, the frequency of AM3/AM2+ CPU will not be impacted.
Does HT impact performance a lot ? (forgive my ignorance of google). I know its a shitty board but I have it for free so what the heck for this price

The chips that cost "about the same", Core i7 860 and Core i7 930, are slower. The faster ones, Core i7 950/960, are in the >$500 range.
