Because all 1366 boards have a 24GB per processor limit, so 48GB max on a 2 processor board like the SR-2, AFAIK.

I think that's for Core i7. Xeon 2p can do 48 GB / socket. To answer his question, that 8 GB module has crap latencies and speeds (DDR3 1066 MHz, CL9). It's more for servers than workstations.

2k for dual hexa cores + 2.4k for quad sli (can gtx480 do quad??), 3k for ram + 0.6k for 1500KW psu + 0.5k for the mobo and 1k more to get a decent air conditioner unit for your room... You get the picture...

i've run a 96bg in my sr2. at the time of these pics i was down 2 sticks due to selling them.... @ $240 a stick they eat allot of wallet.

It's 24GB unregistered for both the i7 and Xeon, 48GB for a 2P total. When using unregistered with a Xeon, could go all the way up to 288GB/socket over 9 DIMMs. As for the news, very nice. Makes my 2GB x 4 G.Skill DDR2 seem cramped. They're also very good with returns, did it once and had new RAM in under 7 business days.

2x Xeon X5680: ~$3000 SR-2: $600 2x Coolers: $100 10 sticks of RAM @ $240/stick: $2400 Antec 1200w PSU: $250 Intel SSD x3: $330 to $1260 (can't tell capacity) OCZ SSD x3: $200 to $1050 (dunno which drives) ~$6350 give or take a bill not including the SSDs.

well.... 2 5680s sr2 12x8gb ecc 1333mhz sticks antec tpq1200 4 intel g2 80gb ssds 4 ocz vertex 2 100gb ssds 2 TT frio's ati 5870 thats just whats in the pic. when you take in account there is another machine thats identical and they are both in a case, with 2 wd 2tb RE4's in each, highpoint raid cards, intel gigabit lan cards, blueray burners, etc. about $20k IF purchased from newegg.

Somehow I knew Fit's super rig would end up posted here when I saw this post, but I didn't think it would be Fit himself posting it. If they are close to around $2000, I think 6 of us should get together and buy a set. Then split the sticks up in sets of 8 GB. So that would be 8 GB across 2 sticks at 2000 Mhz @ CL8 for about $334. I think that is a nice price.

You should swap the CPU coolers for the twin towers there. The color schemes would match then. Sorry, but is just my OCD talking.

I guess to make sure that BT doesn't give us all a warning for this, please direct any further questions, comments, or suggestions about FitSeries 2010 OMG that is just plain ridiculous rig to its dedicated thread here. I also like the color scheme for these RAM being mostly black and shiny. That will match.....everything I own related to my computer. Hell even my replacement parts for my computer are usually black and shiny. I may buy an 8 GB set of this stuff and sell my current blue G.Skills RAM here.
