ECS P55H-AK Release-Grade Motherboard Pictured

ECS' new high-end socket LGA1156 motherboard, the P55H-AK, is closer to release with the company listing it on its website. The P55H-AK was first pictured at this year's Computex event held in Taipei, but the company seems to have made some changes to its design, notably a different set of heatsinks and component colors. The key feature of this motherboard is its PCI-Express bandwidth management, which is care of an NVIDIA nForce 200 bridge chip that facilitates two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 links that are split between three slots, first slot being x16, and the other two being x8 constant; and a PLX 12-lane 3-port bridge chip that connects to the P55 PCH over PCI-Express 1.1 x4, and gives out PCI-Express 2.0 x1 connections to the SATA 3 Gb/s and USB 3.0 controllers.

The CPU socket makes use of 15μ gold contacts (the pins have a 15 μm thick layer of gold on the surface), it is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots for dual-channel memory. Expansion slots include three PCI-E x16, two PCI-E x1, and a PCI, ATI CrossFireX and 3-way NVIDIA SLI are supported. Connectivity include two 2-port USB 3.0 controllers, of which one gives out a 2-port internal header, six SATA 3 Gb/s and two SATA 6 Gb/s ports, 8-channel HD audio, dual gigabit Ethernet, eSATA, and a number of USB 2.0 ports. The board's listing is indicative of a launch sometime soon.

I never thought ECS would make something like this. They used to be known as maker of cheap motherboards. And now they are making such nice and powerful mobos. The color scheme is just excellent.

Agreed! This looks more like a ASUS mobo, only B&W!Nice job from ECS.

Haha - that's what I mentioned a few posts earlier, under the ASUS-Mobo. Manufacturers should invent in that black style. It's looking good. Except those unnecessary Illustrations on the heatsinks.

I've never heard of ECS before. Are they able to build quality?

ECS otherwise known as Elitegroup, have made motherboards for Dell and other companies for years. Many of your prebuilt computers have ECS boards.

They have their own boards too usually low end and cost like half of what Gigabyte or Asus charge for their low end. Unfortunately you get what you pay for and their aftersales support is atrocious and their quality is usually crap. They rarely release a bios update. If a new CPU or some hardware comes out they will not upgrade their bios and you're stuck with what you had when you first built it.

Unless they are planning on supporting their boards like Asus/Gigabyte do i would steer clear of it. It does look nice though.

Okay. I stay with Asus and EVGA. :D

Naw man ECS has been stepping up their game as of lately. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them. I have only had one of their 775 boards though.

My ECS X58 Black edition has been crunching @4.0GHz 24/7 100% load for over a year without fail. So as far as build quality I would say they are very good.

ECS is making their move into the enthusiast game, both with this and their Black Series GTX 460s.

not really, because i have build countless PC with ecs motherboard and just one that fail on me, and their support was superb, when i RMA it its just take 3 days for my motherboard to be repaired and when you take your motherboard to their service center they just exchange your mother board to brand new one

"their aftersales support is atrocious"
I think that is being nice. I had a bios problem (dead after flash) with an ECS board. The response was "Update Bios". Thanks! haha
(Granted this was 5+ years ago so maybe things have changed).

Hopefully this is a step towards reinventing and cleaning up themselves like what MSI did with their blue and black motherboards. Never hurts to have more quality companies producing quality products in the market.

DDR3 2000 mhz ( OC ) means if only overclock you can reach the 2000 Mhz ? No stock 2000 Mhz clock ?

I just checked out their bios updates for their flagship X58 Black motherboard. Came out in 2009 and theres been 1 bios update. An Asus or Gigabyte board that came out at the same time has like 10 bios updates.

If people are happy with that go for it. Not me.

No such thing as 2000mhz memory exists , nor chipsets/CPUs. Most companys are selling "overclocked" parts, when it comes to memory, 100%. There's barely even a standard for DDR3-1600, and neither AMD or Intel support it.

AMD supports 1066 in 790FX and earlier, and 1333 with 890FX.

They don't provide any easy links, but check any 890FX-based board review, and you should see this mentioned by the reviewer.

Intel...
Integrated memory controller enables three channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, resulting in up to 25.6 GB/sec memory bandwidth. This memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
That's socket 1366.

Socket 1156, however, supports 1333 as well. You can see this here at this link comapring the i7 970, and the I7(1156)880, the two fastest processors for each socket, that aren't Extreme Editions:

Just something you should always keep in mind.

Hopefully more software updates and better customer service will be part of the ecs drive to become a player in the high end market, after all more competition is always good

Deep Green?

I was pretty skeptic about it too when the info released from our HQ, but after finding out more about it, and for myself who have several system on standby all the time. Its actually a pretty nice idea and innovation our RD came up with! Good for the earth, good for my wallet on the electric bill too.

Check it out, feel free to let me know what you think!? any kind of feed back is always welcome:

. ECS plans to implement Deep Green Technology into the whole process of production for all products including ECS' latest 6, 5 and 5 series Chipset by Intel®, as well as the latest 8 series Chipset by AMD™. It is equivalent to planting 2,902,500 trees, based on the calculation of 30 million pcs of motherboard sales per year2.

Starting from the theme “Green Touch, Good Life”, ECS has been implementing Green concepts in the process of product design, purchasing, production, sales, services, and recycling with all manufacturing processes. ECS leads the industry to announce “Deep Green Technology” for people to experience this state-of-the-art and lowest power consumption technology and fulfills the goal of sustainable development for the Earth.

1. EuP’s standard is 0.5W of PC power consumption and 0.25W of motherboard power consumption among PC’s when systems are in soft-off mode by 2013.

2. According to Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs’ statement on July 7, 2007, the power consumption per one degree electricity creates 0.636 kg CO2. One degree electricity stands for 1 w *hours/1000. A tree can absorb in average 12 Kg of carbon dioxide per year according to Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC).

My stars went supernova
I think my next board is going to be ECS. I wonder how their windows software fairs at the moment; on things like being able to control bios from windows ocing/flashing the board inside windows and so on.

I would really like to see some white PCB motherbords come on to the market. I wonder if ECS will ever release anything like that.
