GeForce GTS 450 CUDA Core Count, Clock Speed Surfaces

Well placed sources seem to have finally pieced together specifications of NVIDIA's GeForce GTS 450 graphics card, the company's mid-range offering that competes with ATI Radeon HD 5700 series products. In the run up to this, we've come across reports showing that the SKU is based on a GPU codenamed GF106, then we came across NVIDIA reference design PCB drawings, followed by clock speeds, and finally, pictures of the GPU itself revealing quite a bit about the die size. The most recent report affirms the specs we know till now, plus revealed the CUDA core count, which is 192. The CUDA cores are clocked at 1566 MHz, and that the memory is clocked at 902 MHz (3608 MHz effective).

So as a quick recap of the tech specs of the GeForce GTS 450, it's based on the new 40 nm GF106 silicon, the die area is roughly 240 mm². The GPU has 192 CUDA cores, and a 128-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface holding 1 GB of memory. The core is clocked at 789 MHz, and memory at 902 MHz (3608 MHz effective), translating into 57.8 GB/s of memory bandwidth, CUDA cores at 1566 MHz. It supports 2-way SLI, and gives you access to the latest PC graphics technologies, including support for DirectX 11 and OpenGL 4.x, along with support for a wide range of NVIDIA-exclusive technologies. Hmmm lets see some benchies, and i was hoping for around 256 shaders but wateva, its got decent clocks:toast:

I'm sure it'll be a hell of a card, no doubt, but I wouldn't like to see it beat up my, recently acquired, preciousness! :D

One thing I'm noticing is the low memory bandwidth (compared to the 5770), but they seem to compensate that with CUDA cores and, hopefully, OC headroom.

With lower CUDA core count, it'll probably reach 1000Mhz Core with some extra voltage.

192 shaders is ~57% of 338 in GTX 460.
ATI 5750 has ~65-66% of GTX 460 performance.

GTS 450 at 789MHz clock would be roughly equal to 5750 in performance, maybe just a little better.
Would have to overclock it to ~880-900 MHz to match 5770. Don't forget that 5770 can be overclocked too.

Should of added 256bit, and not sure why the bandwidth is so low with GDDR5

probably because they will do a 455 just as they did with 460/5 etc. and the 5770 only has 128 bit, probably trying to directly compete because thats how nvidia rolls lol

You are wrong with this math man.
You have to compare computing power, not just number of units, because of very high clock speed difference. Other minor mistake is, that 460 has 336 shaders, not 338.

So, the proper equation is: 192*789/(336*675)=66,8% so its >5770 :P

Next thing is OC - 5770 has high stock clock (850MHz) so percentage OC is not good at all (about 15%) - this new GPU OC easy by 20%+

Last thing is memory - here is big point for ATI, because of clock and OC. Friend has 5770 with 5500MHz effective - i think 455 OC to max 4000-4200MHz. Bus should be 192bit for this GPU :/

I admit that GTS 450 should be a bit faster than 5750.
According to techpowerup 5750 is even 68% of GTX 460.

I took 65%-66% from another site. And 5770 is 12-15% faster than 5750. That is why 450 needs 880-900 MHz clock to compete with stock 5770.

All I can say is it's looking like ATI isn't gonna settle for second anymore..

While Nvidia is still filling it's first DX11 lineup ATI is going on with it's second..
Which will likely take the crown back and improve upon some already impressive performances.

While AMD is looking to catch up and Match Intel WOW...this was a great merger :)

keep in mind that 192 shader cores might not be everything that is on the die, just as the GTX460 has 336 enabled out of 384, and the GTX480 has 480 out of 512, and so on.

this may well be a ~200-256 shader core in total with some disabled to help yeilds. tho that is my wild specualtion at this point.

Some new info. 783MHz, not 789. In average slower than 5770, except some Nvidia-friendly titles.

Wonder when these will get rebadged? Nvidia is really making a complete lineup, unfortunately other than the top two cards they are crap, and even those are inefficient compared to ATI.
