AMD Radeon Gets Battlefield 3 Ready, Too

Just hours after NVIDIA released its Battlefield 3 optimised GeForce driver suite, AMD is ready with a similar piece of software of its own, the AMD Catalyst 11.10 Preview. Preview drivers are essentially BETA hotfix drivers. The new Catalyst software suite makes your ATI/AMD Radeon graphics card (that meets minimum/recommended requirements) optimized for Battlefield3. Its changelog follows:
  • Improves performance in Battlefield 3 Open Beta release for both non-Anti-Aliasing, and application enabled Anti-Aliasing cases on the AMD Radeon HD 6000 and AMD Radeon HD 5000 Series for single GPU configurations
  • Enables support for Eyefinity 5x1 display (portrait and landscape) configurations using the AMD Radeon HD 6000 and AMD Radeon HD 5000 Series
  • Vision Engine Control Center: User Interface enhancements have been implemented for the CrossfireX, GPU Overdrive, and Information Center pages.

Yeah, I would hope for some optimizations for the 4000 series as well. I'm running two HD 4870s in crossfire which are still capable of a lot. I mean, I was an early adopter, bought them in July 2008 and I'm glad they've made it this far, but if I could I'd like a little a more out of them. At the very least they could optimize this game, which is particularly power hungry for the old generation, because the player base is so large they're likely to have some people around still rockin' the 4xxx series wanting to play!

Would you guys like to form a petition for optimization of BF3 on 4xxx series? We can post it on BF3 feedback forum and also to the Catalyst team.

you and I as well as everyone else here all know that its not going to happen.
Even though there are members here that loved the 4870's and it was by far the most popular setup in the crossfire clubhouse. I dont think any of them would bother wasting their time signing some useless petition that AMD are going to ignore anyway.

The cards 4xxx series had a good run and a cheap overclocked 5850 offers the same performance of 2 4870s rolled into 1 with much less power draw and a lot more efficient in general.

So i recommend a 5850 if you dont want a major upgrade. 5870 or 6950 if you can afford it
