Scythe Releases the BIG Shuriken 2 Rev. B CPU Cooler with LGA 2011 Support

Japanese company Scythe has just announced the European release of a revised version of the BIG Shuriken 2 low-profile CPU cooler, one that adds support for LGA 2011 (aka Sandy Bridge E) processors while maintaining compatibility with Intel LGA 1155, LGA 1156, LGA 775, LGA 1366 and AMD Socket AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+ and FM1 chips.

Scythe's updated cooler measures 125 x 135 x 58 mm and features a nickel-plated copper base, five copper heatpipes (Oval Heatpipe Structure), and a Slip Stream 120 Slim fan boasting a Sleeve Bearing that can operate at 500 to 2.000 RPM (9.32 – 33.67 dBA sound output).

The BIG Shuriken 2 Rev. B has a recommended price tag of 30 Euro (VAT not included).

These are great for HTPC's they can cool very well, but you have to get LP ram like the CORSAIR Vengeance LP

For doing a custom mod HTPC that has a window. But you are right for 95% of HTPC no need for heatsinks.

Too bad that "low profile" RAM is actually the standard RAM height... corsair is just one of many manufacturers which have been going with gaudy 1.5x+ height heatsinks on all of their kits recently. Something like this is actually low profile RAM, not just standard profile...

Doesn't stick up above the slot.

Whoa, i had had misread that as "low power" instead of "low profile"! Those corsair sticks looked perfectly normal-height to me.

Yeah I got 2 of those sticks right here, but yea I used those Corsair as a example of LP ram with small heatsinks that will fit.

I put the original shiruken cooler in a HTPC I built for a mate of mine, the case was an Antec 1380 cube case and it couldn't handle the heat of a 550be unlocked to 3 cores, bear in mind it is quite warm where I live. I wasn't that impressed with it, the low profile fan also died a short time after fitting it. Maybe this new design is more efficient.
