Diablo 3 Declared 'Fastest Selling PC Game' Ever

From the launch day server meltdown to the way everyone you know seems to be playing, it's pretty clear that Diablo III is quite popular. But just how popular? Blizzard announced today that it sold 3.5 million copies within the first 24 hours, which supposedly makes it the fastest-selling PC game of all time. On top of those 3.5 million copies were another 1.2 million doled out free to World of Warcraft Annual Pass subscribers. After a week, Blizzard says, Diablo III was up to 6.3 million players--not including South Korean game rooms, where it's estimated to have a 39% share. "We're definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo III and jump in the moment it went live," CEO Mike Morhaime said in the announcement.

"We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo III players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward, and I also want to thank them for their ongoing support." As well as rolling out sneaky little balance updates, Blizzard is investigating reports of nasty hacks, and preparing to launch the real-money auction house on May 29.

I am about 6 hours in and I am only a level 9. It does take quite a while to level up

MT AlexDamn, just when I was softening on the idea of getting this game. I guess I'll just watch Dancing with the Stars instead.
GET IT! You and I could frolic in the graveyards like two giant gay barbarians leaving a wake of shattered bodies, broken hearts and drippin butts!

RejZoRHalo was the biggest turd i've ever seen. Lame laggy graphics, repeating levels (did they just use copy& past through half the game?), lame aliens etc etc. Only good thing about it was the section where you first meet those creepy crawlies and the air to air combat in multiplayer. Other than that, nothing to brag about.
To make Halo.

Take unreal 2.
Limit the player to 2 weapons at a time.
Cut off Unreal 2 balls.
Make it repetitive but copy the story.
Market the game like its the best thing since sliced bread.
And make loads of repetitive levels.
Then market as much as you can.

I haven't played D3 yet but looking forward to it.

Mescalamba..because something sells good doesnt mean it is good.

Ppl bought D3 cause they believed in Blizzard and they played and liked D2 (or/and D1).

Actually its not bad game, its fine recreational fun. Problem is, its not much Diablo..

And another bigger problem is horribly flawed launch of game itself. Plus necessity to be online even when you want to play singleplayer. As you are playing "single-player" on Blizzard server. How retarded is that?
Except Diablo 3 isn't a "Single-Player" game, it is intended to be played Co-op, and Blizzard made that very clear over the past couple years. As a Co-Op \ Multiplayer Game, Diablo 3 is a ton of fun. I've played about half by myself and half with friends, and it's definitely more fun with friends. An analogy is Left 4 Dead. You can technically play by yourself, as a Single Player game, but it's intended to be played with other people.
hardcore_gamerGreat. Devs got a reason to use always online DRM in their games.
No other dev could pull something like Diablo 3 off. The always online is basically because they introduced the RMAH, they wanted to cut down on item duping and hacking, and to achieve this they had to have a majority of information stored server-side on their end, not client-side where it's open to editting. Ubisoft has tried always-on DRM for PC games for years and people ****ing hate them and don't buy their games (On PC at least) as proof.

ShurakaiBlizzard didn't hide the fact they're were going the always online route, so I don't mind too much, just wish they'd get some servers closer to Aus and other countries.
This is BS. If you are going to force online play put a server in every country you are selling the game!

TheMailMan78I'm almost 30 hours in and I haven't even maxed out one character.
i was talking about other games, on average i am lucky to get 30 hours out of game. if you estimate d3 at about 300 for a full playthrough of each class it sounds great - but d1 and 2 had thousands of hours of replay-ability.
NinkobEiOn this note, i'm totally done talking to you. lol :slap:
I honestly do not understand, be done if you want but from the way i see you expressed your opinion, but you are sick of everyone else expressing theirs... what is it i'm missing?
xenocideExcept Diablo 3 isn't a "Single-Player" game, it is intended to be played Co-op,
so when people complain about there being a crap chat system, no way to customize or even name games, no social interaction at all - the reason is because it's singleplayer at heart.
but when they complain about the always online nature, it's multiplayer at heart. it can't be both.

it doesn't do single or multiplayer right so there is a problem there one way or the other.

KreijI do recall some people saying D3 was going to be epic fail.
Guess they were wrong, eh?
No it did epic fail...but that doesn't stop people from buying it because it has Blizzard's name on it.

Blizzard could release a flash web game with only 1 level. Put a price of $60 on it, and it would still sell oogles of money because again...Blizzard's name is on it.

Sigh...one of these days folks are gonna finally realize that Blizzard does not poop gold. Blizz does make bad games and bad decisions. Same with every big studio.

I'm honestly wondering if you got me confused with someone else. I re-read everything I said, and none of it says anything bad at all about TL2. Well, I said it had cartooney graphics, but surely you aren't pissed off at me for that, are you?

Anyway, try to be less aggressive in the future, it's just an internet discussion afterall.

Diablo 3 is a great game, I have no regrets purchasing it. As with most Blizzard titles it feels like a work in progress right out of the gate. I can't speak on itemization yet because what I've found in game has been pretty damn good for my class and I'm only level 35 right now. I hope Blizzard fixes the itemization problems I read about on the internet, and I'm sure they will.

I'm eagerly awaiting Torchlight 2, not because I feel it'll be a better game, but because I really enjoyed the first. $20 for a brand new title these days is almost unheard of, and that alone is awesome.

I'm sure I'll put several hundred hours into Diablo 3. The game's not for everyone and everyone's opinion is pretty valid when it comes to this game. Always on DRM is shit and I'm a hypocrite for buying it. I have some Ubisoft titles to buy now because of my hypocrisy.

Bottom line: Diablo 3 is great, but not the game everyone wanted or was expecting. It'll only get better with time.

Sorry, but I know, i will look like an fucking asshole but looking at pics or vids of Diablo3 and even reading some review, doesn't get me any warmer for it. Whatever screenshot of BF3 is nice IMHO, but what is this D3 game about? Trading shirts and pants with dragons? Gimme a break. I should not be here but the media-noise is so strong about this Diable thing, it is disturbing... You guys are all crazy freaks! No harm intended :)

i've been playing every minute i can (i'm a busy person) and only just hit level 30 on my first character. heaps of coop backtracking with my friends.

this is a fun game, with a huge amount of replayability in coop. i still dont get how people can bitch about always on like its a game killer, when steams been always on for so long as well.

The difference is the ability to play offline. You got the option with Starcraft 2.

Steam has activation, so you activate and can play offline to your hearts content. I don't have a problem with that.

I'm poor and use Clear 4G on my lappy, so the signal drops and I'm looking at the login screen again. It pretty much sucks :/

Easy Rhinodiablo 3 really isnt a diablo game. it is more of a WoW experience. torchlight 2 will be a lot like diablo 2 with but with updated graphics and a lighter story line at less than half the cost with a real single player mode and lan mode. but i think we are all beating a dead horse with these diablo 3 threads...
I've seen those shots from T2 and the graphics looks nothing spectacular, is even on pair with the one from D3. Relax.

Ok i would like to say: i played all the series of diablo, in diablo 3 the missing element is the set items. Maybe they put some to the game but never ever drops! When an item never drops you loose motivation but when drops you will search for the next part of it. Also could replay all the Act from scratch.

I made 1 from all chars in diablo 3, finished normal with monk and dropped only 1 legendary item with some scrap stats on it.

They made an ach tree for diablo but the aches doesnt motivate me! I need the "green" set items back...

I like to play rpg games, Torchlight is a good game, i would like to play the 2'nd too.

I couldn't say diablo 3 is bad game but the motivation for replaying the game is missing that's for sure, at least for me. The difficulty modes doesn't make sense when you have no gear.

There are set items, but you have to craft them.
