EVGA Officially Announces GeForce GTX 780 Ti Classified K|NGP|N Edition

EVGA has today ended its teasing campaign and finally introduced what it calls 'greatest overclocking graphics card on the planet', the GeForce GTX 780 Ti Classified K|NGP|N Edition. Designed in collaboration with overclocking gurus Vince "K|NGP|N" Lucido and Tsemenko "TiN" Illya, this card features a 14+3 phase power design, dual 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors (to deliver up to 450 W to the GPU), enhanced PLL circuitry, a preinstalled dedicated PWM baseplate, and an ACX cooling solution packing two 10 cm fans.

"In order to break world records these days you need some serious hardware," said Vince "K|NGP|N" Lucido. "This card was engineered to serve one purpose… be the world's best overclocking graphics card. Expect GPU clockspeeds at over 1.85 GHz with extreme cooling."
"With the EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti Classified K|NGP|N Edition graphics card, we focused on the basic demands that are needed when doing extreme overclocking," said Illya "TiN" Tsemenko. "Capable hardware design and heavy power delivery capacity is key for performance dominance and the ultimate gaming experience. So too is a unique power convertor able to provide over 450W of clean voltage for every kind of overclocking!"

EVGA's OC-craving offering also has 2880 CUDA Cores, a 384-bit memory interface, 3 GB of GDDR5 VRAM, dual DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, and is bundled with a backplate. Unfortunately EVGA doesn't mention the card's GPU or memory clocks and still no word on how much it will cost or when it will be available for purchase.

However, I don't get the whole conception of placing an air cooling on card which is made for overclockers, saying that this thing would easily beat 1.85 GHz w/ so-called extreme cooling. We're talking about liquid nitrogen and stuff like that, right, Kingpin? So, how exactly does your beatiful radiator supposed to help us?

Not trying to say anything offensive about EVGA ACX or so.

Well ofcourse EXTREMEEEEEE overclockers will get rid of the ACX anyway and put watercooling/LN2 on this thing. But I expect the cooler should be able to handle like 1,5ghz on air.

But then again I wouldn't be suprised that this card is just a huge publicity stunt/gullible buy card and it ends up only being any better than other cards if you rip of the cooling and put it in water.

If they really wanted the ULTIMATE overclocking card for people not drinking in LN2 they should of either made it a hydrocopper or gone the ASUS route and make it a hybrid.

There are a couple of reasons why this wouldn't work well, yes the card was really designed for extreme cooling, but there are a few reasons why shipping it "extreme cooling" ready would not be ideal:

1. A waterblock would add at least $100 to the MSRP (over the air cooler). What about users who go LN2 or already have a universal block?
2. You may ask why not ship with no cooler? This is a challenge too, the product must be tested at the factory, so a cooler needs to be on there at some point, and removing it is extra labor. Also is the same story if the product ever needs to be RMA'd.

An air cooler is really the ideal solution in this situation.

I can understand that reasoning easily but in a way I wonder. this is only something you guys can know but how many people actually GO LN2 of the people buying this. I would think not that many since people who use LN2 are hardcore benchers anyway and if you go on THAT level of benching you most likely got sponsorship and/or don't care about the 100+ cost.

I would think most people who buy this fall outside of the catagory of LN2 users. Since most people I have seen buying classified cards and the highest ranked models of GPUs(outside of EVGA forums especially) just use the aircooling and don't bother with watercooling since with nvidia's voltage lock there isn't really stupid amounts of heat being made. The kingpin with it's unlocked voltage and all the fancy stuff will create more heat than normal...except for maybe AMD cards :laugh:. so a hybrid would of been nice to have.

Now jacob don't consider this as a insult or rant to EVGA. I have heard alot of good stuff about you guys and if everything goes well I will probably buy either a Ti classi or kingpin depending on what is ready to ship.

Most likely Kingpin since I just unlocked my 680's bios to 150% voltage(should be) and that bit of extra voltage sure increased my clocks so yeah unlimited POWEEEEEEEEEEEEEER is fun.

PS: Since I can't find it easily. is the 780Ti classified voltage locked or not?

It's up to 1.35v with the classified tool and more than that with the EVBot, just like the 780 classified.

which is sad as the EVbot is pretty much impossible to find these days.

Yeah the cooler does look ugly and cheap but who is actually going to buy this card and keep it on a shitty air cooler with all the extra power delivery available? Would be throwing on a nice water block soon as I took it out of the box so whatever cooling setup it comes with is of no consequence. Actually kicking myself for buying a reference design 780 so it would give me more choice on water blocks as I'm now stuck at max allowable voltage but temps that would easily give me more OC headroom if I only I could ramp up the voltage in order to get stable clocks.

Put it under water/LN2 and then you can use the stock cooler on your favorite VHS cassette.

why do people complain about it's ugly transparent cooler ? people who buy this card will ditch the cooler anyway, and probably gonna go water cooler loop or LN for overclocking...

that makes me wonder though... why don't manufacturer sold these kind of "highly over cloackable card" naked without a cooler anyway :p

Jacob from EVGA already answered that question.

they need to be able to test the GPU in the factory and you need some form of cooling to do that.

it is too much work/hours to screw on test then screw off coolers in the factory essentially doubling the time it needs to make a GPU and as we know time is money so they comprised by making the ACX bigger this time.
