Yes. Very good. Both numbers, 12 and 18, are between 8 and 42!
Like I said, you're going to see anything as low as 8% better and as high as 42% better. And yes, it's not always going to beat the 8800GTX (code optimization, anyone?), but considering that the R600 is reported to be shorter, a better performer, cooler, and the same price as the 8800GTX... I'll take the ATi, thank you very much.

Edit: It's not worth giving up a quarter's tuition, mind you. I personally won't be buying one on the grounds that I'm a starving college student.
lol, dnt buy one, wait until it goes down on price, i aint gonna bother with dx10 iuntill summer or 2008, cz then i no the cards will be proper if u no what i mean, nvidia and ati i wud of thought these cards are their test prodcuts to see how they do with dx10, then the new cards will obviously be better as they do.

im gonna buy a x1950xtx soon, i can get the 8800GTX but as its the 1st DX10 card i get the feeling it will dissapoint me in the future when the dx10 games come out.

I can't make any sense of this. If you're gonna buy high-end then buy an 8800GTS or GTX. Both are much faster than the x1950xtx and are more future proof, and they will sell for more in the future when you upgrade! How can you buy a 1950 now!?!

cz i aint had gd experience with 1st line products, and plus the GTS is shit GDDR3 and some crappys specs :P, the GTX is fine but, think about it no1 in the world had bought a 786 or 768mb card not sure what one THE gtx IS, shows that the gt stuck and cudnt go to 1 gig :P. 8800GTX is risky, although it looks a beast.

For the price. I just bought a x850 pro. Any gaming I do is on a 17" CRT. The highest resolution I need is 1152x864@75Hz. Besides.. Now we can go and buy your used x1950XTX for teh cheap!

i dunno the only one i can probably afford is the 8800GTS, but dnt u think that looks cheap?, and i doubt i wud see much diff from that to a x1950XTX

Well no, it's fucking amazing. I have GTX and it whoops all over the place. The GTS can be OC'd to GTX speeds (within a hair of...) and I don't know how you can call 96 shader units crappy... It's much better than the x1950xtx, I don't know how you can see it any other way.

1st gen graphics cards are fine (the FX series excepted), I have had many!

(GDDR3 is just fine BTW)

The only reason why someone would buy a 8800GTS is for the new features. If you're looking for Price/Performance, the x1950XTX would probably be the better choice, at least until you need DX10.

The only thing I don't agree to is buying a DX9 card this late in the game. I'd just suffer with the low frames until some mid-performance DX10 cards come out. By then, they'll probably of revised anything (major) that needs revising.

The idea of buying high-end old-technology isn't a new one.

Soon lol. Simply put the GTS and XTX cost about the same, but the GTS is so far ahead in technology, and well ahead in performance, that buying an XTX is for ATi Fanboys... I would advise the cheapest card you can get hold of, though if there is a very good offer on an XFX or EVGA card I would go for one of those, otherwise it really dooesn't matter...

I don't really trust the benchmarks. There isn't any picture of the card itself!!! Where is the PSU specs? If they REALLY did have the card it it SHOULD be shown.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radeon_R600;
Anyone could make this up with assumptions and scaling of calculations.

Well, the site mentions that this wasn't an official review, but rather a couple guys who got their hands on it when it was sent over for Windows Vista driver testing.

...right?

 Hahaha! You're actually right! I never thought about that. I'm using.. *looks at meter* ~120 watts? About 120 watts for my entire system.. And about 160 watts in a game.

Crazy.

yep but the card still works even oc'd from 250/513 to 340/585 :twitch: why wont it die? see if nvidia/ati built cards like that this 4fps diff would disappear and a lot better cards would be produced but alas the good ole days are gone
