PS3 firmware 1.54 released

Anyone who connects to the PS3 network this morning will promptly discover that they need to update their PS3 firmware. Too bad it doesn't really do too much to games. The main changes are...
  • An added ability to resize the video chat window.
  • The ability to attach a USB camera to the PS3, for video chat
We will probably see a substantial PS3 firmware upgrade come March 23rd, when we will see the console released in PAL territories.

Does this effect gameplay for users without the ability to connect? I mean will future games run badly if the users dont have the latest firmware?

Future games won't run period if you don't have the latest firmware, thanks to anti-piracy measures :shadedshu (I will enjoy my Xbox360 if I can ever afford one).

Sony just isn't consumer focused, its all about the money a profits to them. With an x360 new for £150 i think my money would be going to Microsoft if i were to buy a games console anytime soon.

Dont buy a PS3. Right now they suck hard. After a year or two I'm sure they will be OK machines tho.

For the Core version you mean? That one is useless, honestly. Premium all the way~

Even if the PS3 has a good value due to the BDD, I won't buy it. The price is too high for somebody like me who wouldn't hardcore game on it. Thus consoles like the Wii are more attractive because "it pays off sooner".

Although time will "force" me to buy an X360 due to Halo 3 >_>

i have said it b4 and i will say it again, consols suck pc all the way :)

and i would be sony allows people to buy a disk that has the new firmware on it and can update from the disk, or will have game makers include the update with games, but still, bad move, kinda like them wanting to lock each game to the consol you first played it on.......talk about stupid.......

PS3 is awesome. However, Id wait for the next build and shipment, as it probably is the same for PS3 as it was for the Xbox360.

Peace.

worst where the first 2 builds of the pos2, horrid drives with readers that kept dieing....PITA, my buddy went thru 4 b4 the 5th one worked fine, thankfully he got the extended warr thru bestbuy so it was a "walk in, show them the paper work, walk out with new unit" insted of dealing with sony's SHITTY support.
