AMD's Barcelona will be 'launched' on monday
Interesting news from AMD: It plans to sort of launch it's upcoming K10 CPU on this coming monday if one can trust an interview of two AMD spokesmen at the french website Syndrom-OC.net. In this interview Giuseppe Amato (Technical Director, Sales and Marketing EMEA) and Philip G. Eisler (Senior Vice President, Chipset Division) are talking about the transition of the K8 to it's 65nm version, the K8L (L = Low Power). Furthermore they are explaining the new features AMD implemented into the Barcelona core and prove the rumor that it will come with 2.6 GHz only at the release.
Head on to Syndrom-OC.net to get the whole story.

K8 = processor number. Its a new socket I think, or AM2.
There are s754/939 K8 you know....
K8L = Old name used for Turion Line-Up
K9 = Current Gen, Definition Is debated.. However it seems to be anything AMD Dual Core. Also thought to be DDR2 ready CPUs.
K10 = AMD's next gen, performance difference is supposedly dramatic... like comparing a K7 to a K8/K9. Time will tell though.
:)
* GOOD NEWS, for AMD & yes, even upgraders (whole new system buyers, like myself, that only do it when the power gains are APPRECIABLE, & go for whole new rigs)!
... & imo? THIS IS WHY INTEL'S MAKING THEIR PRICECUTS PRIOR TO APRIL 22 2007... THEY KNEW THIS WAS COMING!
(Industrial Espionage: It's TRULY, a way of life in this field, & others of technical nature... they know what's up from the competition, before WE do, by far...)
APK
P.S.=> If this goes like I think? I just may go out & get that new machine, sooner (far sooner) than my anticipated schedule & budget constraints (buying all new, every 4-5 yrs. in search of AT LEAST 50% power increases)... I hope, truly, that K10 knocks the chocolate outta Intel's CoreDuo/Core2Duo setups, not that I hate Intel, I don't (my 2nd rig's INTEL, & I used INTEL most over 15 yrs. now on PC's)...
I like the fact the AMD/INTEL & ATI/NVIDIA competition keeps prices DOWN, mostly! Who gains? WE DO, as the consumer... apk
can anyone see something strange above? :D
ps: see 1st (unknow = barcelona?) :)
aren't they supposed to come out with 2-core versions of this chip later aswell
