PSP update enables PS3 Remote Play

Sony has updated the firmware for the PlayStation Portable, enabling it to use Remote Play - a new feature which lets PSP owners remotely access media stored on their PlayStation 3 consoles. Users can stream videos, music and pictures from their PS3s directly to the PSP, but they can't play games remotely as some may believe from reading the name. Because the data is transferred via the internet it means users can access media on their PS3 from almost anywhere where they can get online, provided that the bandwidth is adequate. To use remote play, you will need to download the 3.50 firmware update for the PSP using the auto update feature, and you will also need the 1.8 PS3 firmware released just over a week ago. The 3.50 firmware update also provides a new RSS Channel Guide, offering improved support for RSS feeds.

Honestly, I don't see why anyone would ever want to stream media to their PSP? If you already have a PS3, you'd probably not want to watch your HD videos on a 480x272 screen with terrible ghosting.

Well if you're away from your PS3 and are bored you might want to do this. It's streamed over the internet, not just short range. I agree you may be limited by the locations in which it could be used (and I would be worried about how secure it is) but if your in an airport, for example, you may benefit from this.

this looks like a good idea for when your taking a crap! gone are the days when you use to hide porn mags in your bathroom! this sh!t is live & now thanks to this miracle, the porn can be streamed straight to your PSP.

Nice work Sony. now how bout Cutting a few jobs to save cash here & there because Im still not Impressed with what the PSP has to offer users.

sure u get a nice screen & Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX on a PSP but really...the PSP department seems to be a little lacking in Ideas.

I only bought one because I use to work rediculously long hours. (day & nightshift)

PSP's have been out for a while now & I still havent seen even a blink of Final Fantasy to appear on our little screens & that wildcard rehash version is a bit of a joke......

GIVE US PSP'rs SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF! GIVE US FINAL FANTASY ON PSP!!!!!

seems to me to be another way to get the PSP and the PS3 involved together. marketing ploy.while I agree it would be nice to download stuff from your ps3 to your psp at, say a hotel or airport hot spot, it wouldnt be nice for the home gamer, not really.

I dont see too many business types owning a psp and ps3, yet alone downloading video or something they have on their ps3's to this. however, it is nice to know the functionality is there if need be.

I didn't know that you could stream it to your PSP via the internet. however, if you have time to load vids on your PS3, you have time to load them on your PSP. Still, I'm sure someone will make much use of this upgrade. I just won't.

see this would be handy if you had a ps3, see the thing is i dont want one and there is probably alot of people out there that have a better use with £400, the 3.50 firmware (i think its this one) is far the best, its got everything i need on it apart from the manual eqauliser witch is needed cos the pre-programmed ones are pathetic to say the least!! but anyway NO THANK YOU SONY!! just another one of there many usless downloads :pimp:
