Games Workshop Bans fan-made Warhammer movies

Games Workshop, the maker of several famous miniature-based games such as Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, and Lord Of The Rings, has just forbid fans to make movies based on it's games. This comes as very unfortunate news to the makers of Damnatus, who have been working since 2003 to make a spectacular Warhammer 40,000 based film. Games Workshop has revised it's IP policy to show it's new stance on fan-made films. In the case of Damnatus, it is not clear if Games Workshop can get away with stopping the film, considering that the makers of Damnatus already got approval from Games Workshop. This move is surprising, considering that the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises both benefit from such classic user generated content as "Space Balls".Source: The Inquirer

Unfortunately, due to the nuances of the law in some territories, we cannot allow any unlicensed movies to be created which are based upon our intellectual property.
Assholes.

Though they're gonna be hit hard.. I think they're trying to prevent people from making money off their ideas (IP), this is going to flatten the community that just fools around and puts em on youtube for laughs.

I didnt know Spaceballs was a "fan based" movie. I really thought it was a Mel Brooks spoof and one of the best comedies I ever saw

Well, fan-based movies come in all shapes and sizes, if you think about it. There's the professionally done ones, like Damnatus and Space Balls, and then there's the 3 minute shorts you find on YouTube and Newgrounds. The professional ones are sweet, while the amateur ones are fun to make.

In short a ban on fan-based movies is a VERY BAD move, I expect the Warhammer fan base to drop sharply after this...

Games Workshop = a bunch of idiots!

Dont they realise that this will damage its fan base, whereas a fan-made movie would widen it!?!?!

Oh well, maybe this will make some of these nerdy guys that sit around playing with little figurines go get laid instead! Rise up Warhammer geeks, throw those toys away and go pop that cherry

You have to consider, one of the main reasons people play warhammer in the first place is because they can't find said cherry....
