Intel's next big thing is 45 nanometer architecture, which it has applied to their new Penryn micro-architecture. On November 11, Intel will release seven Xeon processors containing the new micro architecture. Among the seven processors are the 2.00GHz E5405, the 2.33GHz E5410, the 2.50GHz E5420, the 2.66GHz E5430, the 2.83GHz E5440, the 3.00GHz E5450 and the 3.16GHz X5460. All seven chips operate on a 1333MHz frontside bus. No official prices are available at this time, and we will see more Penryn processors in Q1 2008.

I wonder if these puppies perform like the Opteron chips do for AMD folk...

now theyre numbering systems just getting silly, to the uninformed these will seem like lesser chips than the 6000 series conroes, and why are they now using the third number to indicate model? (54x0 as opposed to 6x00/6x20)

Intel clearly stated that the numbers indicate features, not performance.

Also, someone who buys Xeons knows what he's buying so they're not confusing anyone. 5xxx are s771 Xeons, potential customers will know that.

oh yeah, duh, i didnt read the post properly, and thought they were releasing 5xxx s775 chips (then it WOULD be confusing), my mistake

Interesting to see they've only stepped slightly beyond 3ghz on these chips. You'd think with 45 nm they'd be willing to step it up to somewhere between 3.3 and 3.5 ghz. Maybe they're going to announce those when they see how K10 does.

Hmm... November 11th... the WW2 memorial day... looks like they were trying to say "The war between Intel and AMD is over with this chip".

or maybe they r just scared? :p

if their 45nm beats well with the 65nm phenom, then AMDs jump to 45nm looks promising

Wow... now it becomes all clear to me! This date hasnt have anything to do with the Crysis date??? Now I understand why crysis was "delayed".... :) Its all about the money, I bet Intel isnt just a partner with crytek, they are a investor as well???

Anyone notice the lack of a T series? Isn't it normally E=desktop T=laptop P=laptop and X=server (or is X extreame)?

Don't worry Intel's not stupid. Laptops are the reason they have the core 2, I'm sure they won't forget them, especially since they will really benifit from 45nm.
