AMD/ATI RV670 Ships Next Month, Comes in Two Versions

AMD's new RV670 will have two versions; RV670 XT and RV670 PRO, named "Gladiator" and "Revival". Both new GPUs will power Radeon HD 2950 XT and Radeon HD 2950 PRO video cards when released. Gladiator will feature 512MB of GDDR4 memory clocked at 1.2GHz, and 825MHz clocked core. Revival will come in 256MB or 512MB GDDR3 flavors, with 750MHz core clock and 900MHz memory clock speeds. Both GPUs will be made using 55nm technology, with support for DirectX 10.1, Shader Model 4.1, PCI-E 2.0, UVD and next generation CrossFire technology. In addition, RV670 XT will be manufactured by AMD while the RV670 PRO will be produced by other manufacturers (not specified). The new GPUs will be released by the end of 2007, or in the beginning of the next year. The information HARDSPELL is reporting is not confirmed by any official source close to AMD or ATI, keep it in mind while reading.

Seems a bit funky...it implies AMD has a 55nm process. Unless they do, and have been able to keep it secret, I don't know if i believe that bit.

AMD/ATi GPUs are outsourced to another company.. TMC.. or something like that.

The 2900pro is the XT, but wasn't a great batch. They have done this in the past. Those will only be out for a short while. This sounds like a cool card. I wonder if it is taking the R700s place.

great, it's already out, the "new" hd 29XX i haven't even got a decent card. I don't think i am even going to buy a dx10 product untill i update my system to a quad and a pci-e 2.0 mobo

Since never..so that and the AMD manufactured chips on the 55nm process open up some big holes in this story.

So hd2900pro is like X800 GTO² (same card different name) and hd2960pro is like x1950pro was (whole new manufacturing process). I have no doubt that hd2950xt is coming, those xx50 versions have come real soon (x800 vs x850, x1900 vs x1950), but that "RV670 XT" might be just hd2650xt?

What did they get wrong? AMD will have the XT made, for them to sell, and the AIBs get the Pro. Sapphires parent company(PC partner) makes cards for ATI.This isnt about TSMC. As for 55nm , its been know/talked about for awhile now. Though all is rummer till AMD says so.

Well maybe they are the midline, and a new card is do to take the "R" spot; R6XX. OR AMD doesnt do what ATI used to do.

hd2950 pro. Hell the 2900 pro has 512mb of gddr4 with a 512bit interface. Sounds better than the 2950pro.

I would imagine the AIB's would want a piece of both the pro and XT versions. Not really smart to sell the XT version while the AIB's only get the Pro. As far as TSMC is concernered, the article seems to be focusing on GPU manufacturing, rather than the actual card manufacturing. I could be wrong, but I've not heard a word, rumour, or otherwise of AMD fabs being utilised for GPU manufacturing. I've read the speculation of future AMD gpu's being made on the 55nm process, but this is usually TSMC's process technology.

Hmm Judging from the x19xx's I wouldn't say the HD2950pro is to be equal with the HD2900xt. Its supposed to be better than the HD2900pro, but probably won't be better than a HD2900xt. Just as the x1950pro was still behind the x1900xt, but better than the x1900gt and x1950gt(I use those two cards since there was no x1900pro).
