NVIDIA to Focus on Triple SLI

NVIDIA has officially confirmed that it plans to launch triple SLI, and has also revealed that it is currently focusing more on that than on developing new and more powerful graphics processors. When asked about the company refreshing its products, NVIDIA’s chief executive Jen-Hsun Huang said the following:
We decided that the refresh that we would do this time was [GeForce] 8800 GT, and this is just a barn burner refresh. We are really proud of the 8800 GT and we are going to put our focus here. From [two GeForce] 8800 GT [graphics cards], you could obviously do SLI and soon you’ll be able to do three-way SLI, so you are going to be able to put a lot of GPU horsepower into your system, starting with a very affordable 8800 GT, and so – this is our focus for now.
This also would seem to conflict with rumours that triple SLI is only initially planned for the 8800 GTX and Ultra cards, as Huang suggests that the company is working on triple SLI for the 8800 GT.Source: X-bit labs

So this basically means the 8800GT supports triple SLI? I thought you needed a card with two SLI connectors to get 3 way SLI...

Do existing 680i mobos with 3 PCIe connectors support this or will only the new 780 mobos be able to use this?

I don't see why ppl are complaining so much... Mobos with 3 PCIe slots have been around for a long time, and even AMD is promoting 4 way Crossfire setups... If you have the moneybgo for it... Even though on second thought, this would kinda be like the Hummer or H2 of PC gaming as far as energy consumption is related :p

I am happy NVIDIA has logic and understands that we don't have 8 PCI slots, and cannot do 4 x 2 slot coolers... thats why you do tri-sli, and single slots coolers.

Am i the only one thats starting to think we're going to have to figure out something else other than dedicating half your computer case and 3/4 of your power to nothing but video cards.

nvidia = lazy
nah id say they are smart, they know for a fact the sheep will buy it regardless even if they dont have the software to utilize the hardware. I just find it a shame that so many people give them a reason to slow down the progress and create stupid money generating schemes like this.
