More Radeon 3870 X2 Pictures Released

As the title says, here are some more pictures of AMD's new 3870 X2 graphics card. Each of the graphics cores has its own memory controller, and each has its own CrossFire bridge. The cards are expected to be released in January.

that is one big ass graphics card! I presume alot of motherboards will have problems with it covering SATA connector etc! you would want a forklift to put that in and move the PC around!

Looking at it there...its nearly..just nearly as big as my penis!

Damn they are large!

How come ATI didn't for a design like the 7950GX2 (serious question)?

Also the core nearest the exhaust end will be receiving all the hot air from the first core (nearest the fan). Could be interesting to see if any aftermarket coolers come out for this card.

because the single 38xx cards come with dual slot coolers and seemingly need them to keep these cards cool.

There is a difference between cooling 50-60W per core and 110-130W per core :)

This card is too big maybe we need to change the case for install this card.

For the sata conectors all manufacturers are changing the positions of the slots for better organization and clearence for the GPU fan

It's so big because it has two fit two GPU's on one board and twice the amount of RAM. You don't want to just stick them side by side, need room for all the traces as well.

That is massive. How will custom cooling go on this thing? I doubt you could slap two VF900's on it.. but if you could, that'd make this card weigh about 20 pounds! AWESOME!

The cards are 12" in length. This is the standard, years old form factor for workstation cards. Workstation cases have a built in bracket on the opposite end of the card to support the weight. This is why the 2900xt oems are 12" and the retail are 9.5".

I do fail to see the problem with the power plugs though. 99% of us run wires between the motherboard and harddrive cage already, with the length being a full foot they cannot go on the end, and some cases wouldn't allow them to be mounted sideways as they may not be wide enough. The whole idea is for compatability for todays $20000 workstations, not us enthusiests.

Two complete cards, on one pcb, linked by a physical crossfire interface. All dual gpu cards to date have simply been two cards crammed into one pcb, linked by a internal physical connection.
