PlayStation3 Outsold Nintendo Wii Last Week in Japan

In a stunning turn of events, Sony snatched the sales crown from Nintendo last week. The release of the 40GB PS3 increased PS3 sales by 38%, as Nintendo Wii sales fell by 10%. Unfortunately for Sony, these are not the overall sales figures, these are only sales figures for the week ending November 11. Here are where the other consoles placed last week...
  • Nintendo DS: 78,884 units
  • PSP: 58,964 units
  • PS3: 55,924 units
  • Wii: 34,456 units
  • PS2: 9043 units
  • Xbox 360: 5817 units

It wasn't hard for the PS3 to do that... There has all ways been a Ps3 in someones store to where as the wii there wasn't. I'd like to see the sells when the wii can stay in a store longer then 15 mins, to where as the ps3 has brought dust... I know it's the 40 gb Ps3 that made the prices go up.

Although I think PS3 is absolute trash ATM, I'm glad to see the Sandbox, Family-Fun, toddler play toy Wii to start falling behind the real game consoles. In 1 year, the only reason to own a Wii will be for Super Smash Bros. (And Pilotwings if that's ever made again) and people are starting to realize that the Wii is a gimmick, ancient technology, and for $30 more, you can get an Xbox360.

Not so much anymore. You heard about Microsoft spending $1 billion to find out what was wrong with the Xbox360, and to repair it? Needless to say, you're hearing a lot less stories about the Red Ring of Death, high failure rates, etc ;).

What I don't understand is how can the DS still be selling like hotcakes? Every person in japan has to have like 15 of them by now...

it sucks, in the UK there are no Wii, whereas germany have a surplus of them at a cheaper price than UK.

Maybe thats true and they are making improvements, but those of us who are still sending in their xbox 360s and receiving horrible refurbished consoles know that its an ongoing problem. They announced that 1 billion dollar investment well before my xbox broke and i've had two since then. Most of the people on my friends list are atleast on their fourth and some with as many as 12 replaced consoles. Thats 20-30 people still having problems with freezing and all the other nonsense that occurs with the 360.

The 40gb can't play PS2 games and only has 2 usb ports? Is that the only difference?

The 40GB PS3 does not have the nice glossy finish either, it has a matt finish, that and the lower 40 GB drive, PS2 games compatibility problems and less USB ports is all that's different

Hmm, well I guess Sony could easily release a firmware update that fixes the PS2 game issue. Other than that, seems like a good deal and I could see why the PS3 would be selling very well as of lately. Sony has finally realized that they need more of an entry model of the PS3 at a price comparable to the Xbox 360. :toast:

actually its not a firmware issue its hardware issue they have downgraded some of the hardware and in doing so they had to take away the ps2 support. I hate the ps3 i doubt it gets much cheaper unless the blu ray fab gets cheaper.

Its funny how people have all these probelms with the 360 still its kinda amaizing i am still on my first no problems no freezing and i leave mine on almost all the time.

the 40gb model also does not include the multi card reader. does anyone know if the hd can still be replaced easily like the 60gb or 80gb?

and i agree about the wii its old and has crappy hardware and a crap gpu from the game cube this is why i hate consoles every few years you have to get a new one and the old one you have to keep if you want to continue to play your old games so you cant get anything back on it. The 360 is suposed to support xbox games i hae about 24 xbox games and only 4 work on the 360. my bro has the ps3 and he has a similar play back issues he has the 60gb which is suposed to support older games but we have only be able to get gt4 to work unfortunatly . even after firm ware updates and trying other games on sonys backwards compatibility list. so there list isnt right cause we have 15 games on it and 1 works thats bs
