Orange to Offer Unlocked IPhones For €749

That's right folks, for the low low price of €749, you can go to France and get your very own non-contract-binding iPhone from Orange. The iPhone is normally around €399, with a binding two-year contract. The fees add up as such: You buy a no-contract iPhone for €649, and if you want the iPhone unlocked, it'll cost you €100 more. The fee only applies for the first six months of iPhone ownership, however, so if you wait a while the unlocked iPhone will "only" cost €649. Anyone from the U.K. hoping to pick up a somewhat cheaper unlocked iPhone can expect to spend around £536 for the whole kit and caboodle. The iPhone goes on sale in France tonight.

Whats funny about this is that Apple have always claimed that the iphone isnt subsidised i.e. the $399 or €399 reflects the actual price of the phone.

So now that we know the actual price Apple puts on an iphone, is it good value?

I got an N95 for free on a £35 contract for 12 months (400 xnet mins + 400 texts). Its only £22 per month after cashback (ive recieved most of the cashback already).

why not just pay some smackhead to ram raid the shop and get one for £50 instead? because at that price that is more than likely what will happen in certain locations in Europe.

Theyd just completely lock the phone so no SIM cards work. All theyd have to do is ban the IMEI number.

Besides, the smackheads wouldnt be selling them for £50 each if the plan were to work.

I'm sure some people would offer an IMEI reflashing service though

Considering the iPhone brings nothing new to the table, you have to give Apple credit for having such a good marketing team that people are willing to wait in line and pay this much money, to "make the switch" and "join the Apple community"

ice to eskimos, I think they could do it.
