Breaking World Records with NVIDIA 3-way SLI

Even though ATI CrossFire setups are at the top of the 3DMark05 and 06 charts, it's time for NVIDIA to make its way to the throne. Finnish extreme legend Sampsa has managed to break the 3DMark03 world record and score 103,888 points using: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 @ 4706MHz cooled by a rotary cascade, EVGA, MSI & Leadtek GeForce 8800 Ultra @ 720/1760/1180MHz in 3-way SLI with custom SLI bridge, EVGA nForce680i SLI motherboard, 2x Kingston KHX6400D2ULK2/2G @ CL3-3-3-3 1T memory modules, Silverstone 1200W PSU, Windows Vista 32-bit and ForceWare 169.25 WHQL drivers. Unfortunately, the world record can not be published in the ORB, because 3Dmark03 doesn't detect the QX6850 CPU, but we can still enjoy the screenshots.

I'm getting a bit fed up with SLI, tri SLI, Xfire,Quad Xfire etc. In most games it simply does not merit the cost. What makes me really quite annoyed is that they make them the top scores. If you have tri SLI of course you're going to smash the records for goodness sake- you have a massive advantage. HMMPH!

Sorry about the little rant:rolleyes:

hey, your right on the nose. I feel its stupid to. I think its sweet what its breaking, but where is the benchmarks that show the AVERAGE person making that? I don't have any crossfire or sli and I'm so happy with it... Won't be upgrading anytime soon

yeh think its time for the spider system lol but i know what people are saying when are they going to release games that can be played ok normal setting on a single card and then to play on max you need a system like that because then tri sli would be a good idea

It can't beat 05 and 06 cuz it's junk apparently.... it being the tri-sli.... wtf, honestly, nobody really cares about 03 anymore.... I bet I can beat a world record on Diablo II fps, with my crappy ass setup, simply because nobody cares about DiabloII enough to run a benchmark on it. Tomorrow, somebody else will break the 03 record if they really want to, and the next day they can do the same.

And wow, thats a crazy ass CPU cooler. May as well just run a freon tube from your fridge, its just as big, and probably a lot cheaper.

Hey, I just broke a benchmark world record!! MYST runs at 50million FPS ON MY COMPUTERRRRR!

It's a cool setup, but for one it costs like 6 grand probably, and you could probably beat it with a much cheaper machine. And it's not even real, its custom?? the sli bridge...

These are just SOMEWHAT average scores too, despite the highly over-clocked cpus at 5.0Ghz, the video cards are not overclocked much at all.

Some other guy on the same forum, just beat it three times....

If they at least ran and listed the 05 and 06 scores, I'd be a little less pissed off...

stacking multiple cards and getting a wr, wow, that makes sense..

Id rather see ATI/NV word records for single cards ;) ofcourse if you drop a third card into the equation ur score is gonna be better

great score tho, now for the 05/06??

3-way SLI, Crossfire X

A VW Beetle can take you at 100 mph---true
A Lamborghini Diablo can take you at 100 mph---true

Imagine you're going on a highway and a nice looking sign-board reads "Speed Limit: 100 mph" Drivers using an all-expensive Diablo get a...:nutkick:

C'mon an 8800GT or a 8800GTS(G92) will do the job just fine, afterall we buy graphics accelerators to play games primarily.:)

EDIT...nice benchmark nontheless

who cares if it gets that high of a score... its frigin 3 ultras like 1500+ just on the cards itself...

it would be impressive though if they get a single card to do that by itself.

I think they did that just to say i scored over 100,000 in 3dmark... 03 *cough* *cough*. That doesn't really show much for today games, it shows it could play the hell outta old DX9 games. WOOHOO 300fps on warcraft3, "I AM GOD!!!!" ROFLMFAO:roll: that is just funny, now put it on 05 or 06 even 08 and then amaze us.

That's really brave making 3 Ultras doing an outdated benchmark just to cross a magic 100000 number....gives me an idea how about running my card with 3DMark01? can I cross a magical number too:laugh:

ghost101AMD will always dominate unless nvidia allow SLI to be used on x38 and x48 boards.

Unless 780i boards support the new yorkfield cores and can overclock them to beyond 5ghz, the story wont change.
A 780i can OC a YF just a well as X38 does.

seems u dont need a super clocking mobo.. all u need is an unlocked multiplier.. the mobo aint doing much with a pissy 416 fsb now is it..

course that unlocked multiplier come f-cking expensive.. he he he

or free when u get factory review chip..

I bet a good spider platform could do 175k, easy... Overclocked of course. Ok... Maybe 140-150k. I'd like to see a spider platform superclocked for once, wtf people... I'm too poor to do it myself... They have the motherboards, and video cards, but come on, no drivers, how can that even be???

xfire and SLI, IMO, is just too overpriced of an option for the average gamer, considering the performance yield per dollar cost. Only reason I went with a second 1950 is because I got it dirt-ass cheap.

I think, especially for the high end cards - if you buy one at regular retail price, there should be a voucher you can redeem through the manufacturer for a coupon for 50% off a second identical card - limited only to the original purchaser. Otherwise, meh . . .

as far as benchmarks go - that's cool you've managed a score like that - to each his own.
