Microsoft Showcases Red Ring of Death at Game Developers Conference

It would seem as though despite $1 billion of R&D against such an event, a Microsoft Xbox 360 failed in front of a live audience. The infamous Red Ring of Death (RRoD) popped up in the middle of a Microsoft XNA demo. Microsoft XNA, when it works, is a very powerful and easy to use tool that can be used to develop video games. If you follow the source link, you can catch a video of the prominently displayed Xbox 360. The Game Developers Conference is currently happening in San Francisco. Hopefully, Microsoft can get a new Xbox 360 to show off Microsoft XNA. Until then, Microsoft is not going to enjoy the ridicule of several thousand developers, and many times more gamers.

It's so sad that the console has the hardware troubles it has, because it's such a great game console. It's got one of the best (if not the best) game lineups in history, a great online service, and it's quite a powerful machine, but it's plagued by some hardware troubles.

that just happened to my bro's xbox this past weekend. he's sending it in for his 4th replacement.

Which makes me think that the source article is wrong is saying that only 16.4 percent of xbox's break down-- as literally EVERYONE that I know who owns one of these machines has had it replaced (from RROD) at least once.

hummmm?

Everyone? I doubt that. Of the 20 or so people I know that own Xbox 360s, only 3 people have had theirs fail. And all of them where 2005/2006 manufactured consoles.

Everyone that i know has had to return there 360 b/c of the RRoD, so between me and all my friends that has a 360, its at a 100% failure rate for us...... Some of us has even had to return them back more than once.

the 16% figure is based on the internally updated xbox 360's but since the replacement consoles are old repaired units that no doubt it the reason why people with repaired consoles continue to have repeat problems.

PS2 has one of the greatest lineups...360 is a joke. I know because I own one, as well as a PS3 and Wii.

Blah blah...

I had the Xbox 360 for 1 year and sold it for the PS3. I had 8 games including Halo 2 Halo 1 and Gears of War. It's not a being a fanboy, it's about me having to pay for online access for over hyped games that continue to let me and fan bases down constantly.

What is a stupid comment is people calling me a fanboy because I've owned both and consider the Ps3 to be better.

wow that does suck - although it was only one out of all the consoles there. one console out of a lot of others. just bad luck that's all. I'm surprised they allowed a guy to film it if anything - they must have a spare somewhere

i think they must use all the crap refurbished versions for demos coz you know they wouldn't want to use the best 360s with good cooling and shit for demos coz it could get stolen or broken and the fact it might not get used much as just a tech demo system

i actually prefer the 360s set of games not sure why people prefer the ps3 tho
i think that paying for xbox live is fair i mean we get good servers and updates for free lots of demos and a regularly serviced erm service anyway you get what you pay for and as for the ps3 you dont pay so you cant complain about it

as always you dont see any people who dont have problems complaining or going online to brag about it

Microsoft's cheap attempt at screwing over gamers backfires once again. I don't know why people buy Xbox360s with such a high failure rate. Microsoft doesn't deserve your money.

Oh, and don't say the game library. Every single good game on Xbox360 is multi-platform, so there is no reason to buy a 360.

The xbox 360 lacks so much hardware and features that the PS3 has, it's horrible how M$ gets away with ripping people off dollar for dollar. :shadedshu
