"Samsung is trying to double SSD capacity every 12 months"...sorry, but that's crap. According to this logic we would have to wait until 2011 to see a 1Tb SSD drive from Samsung, by which time the market would have moved way on. What we need are cheap drives in large quantities - sure manufacturers can add a nice surcharge to show that SSD is the latest and greatest, but the current prices are preventing volume sales.

We all know that SSD drives are not that expensive to produce, and that the price is simply the manufacturers way to make as much money as possible from early adopters. Not that I blame them though; with the cut-throat margins in the HDD business I understand the need to make a killing elsewhere. Just a shame for consumers.

and in 2012 we would have 2TB, 2013 4TB, then 8... 16... 32...

These are cheap, mass produced drives. they are made for laptops and power users, NOT mass storage.

Yes, and it's an awefully long time to wait for something we don't have now - 2Tb (2012). If things continue as they have to date then 2Tb will not be nearly enough in four years time.

And I really don't subscribe to this evolutional capacity / speed increase; what we need is a revolution like holographic storage. It's always mass storage that restrics the potential speed of a modern system, and I for one am dying to move on.

going from milliseconds to nanoseconds in access times is enough for me. these things shit all over raptors. Who needs fast STORAGE anyway? a 64GB can hold an OS and your most demanding games, while a few 500GB's hold the other stuff.
