Coming as a big surprise for me, the first public beta of IE8 was published by Microsoft this morning. Internet Explorer 8 can now be installed from virtually anyone on both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows Vista, Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Download the apropriate version from here. See also the release notes for Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1.

Yep thats looks like it. Seems like a waste to call it 8 why not 7 sp1 or something?

Its basically looking like firefox now :p Im sure there's fixes behind the scenes stuff u cant see like security etc, oh and the web standards! Load times seem faster too.

Ps just found a bug typing this; clicking with the mouse to a certain part of the text box it actualy selects so many characters behind! Pfft!

It appears to pass the Acid2 test.

Says it passes acid2, but no support for application/xhtml+xml. Looks like CSS 2.1 still doesn't work right. How lame can they get?

Not to mention the only new things seems to be useless crap: Facebook Integration, eBay Integration, Live Maps Integration, Integration with Me.dium, and "better functionality with ajax". Well, ajax isn't useless, but how about full support instead all of this half assed crap.

LikeI said, "appears."

I imagine the final version of IE8 is a long way off still. Plenty of time still to add more support and functionality.

...Or maybe not...

Looks like they have added several new things that could be useful, but looking at the release notes, the beta is too unstable for me to even consider trying.

But in all fairness, MS is throwing the app out there for people to tear apart so they can make it work. That's why it is called "Beta".
