TechConnect Magazine has acquired some pictures and specs of ASUS' upcoming EN9800GTX/HTDP/512M graphics card, which is expected to be released on April 1st. It will run at what are thought to be NVIDIA's reference clocks of 675MHz core and 2200MHz memory, with 128 stream processors at 1688MHz. This version will come equipped with 512MB GDDR3 memory, with a price tag somewhere below $350.

Hopefully they'll use another cooler.:shadedshu
by: MrW;713701I hate stock coolers, why do they always have to be SOOO loud? they should take a leaf out of Zalman's book. Also that thing is HUGE!

by: oli_ramsay;713705if the coolers were any better you would be paying a hell of a lot more for the card methinks

It could just be me, but with all of the nvidia card releases lately, I dont really see anything huge or different. Not even clock speeds or the number of stream processors....
by: WarEagleAU;713720The model numbers are different, which is all that half of computer enthusiasts care about.

$350 seems a bit high... Before the $170 3870 maybe, but that price is just way too high.

The model numbers are different, which is what Nvidia has tricked half of computer enthusiasts into caring about.
fixed hehehe ;)
Is it worth it? I think ill hang on to my g92 and wait for the next series
by: Judas;713744thats a sound plan. Im doing the same

by: Judas;713744That's what I'd recommend you do from what I've seen.

This makes me think of the difference between having a 1900xtx and thinking about upgrading to the 1950xt when the 2900xt is just aroud the corner. Its just a diff name with very much something similar under the hood so-to-speak
by: mandelore;713750not quite so because the 2900 was twice as fast as any previous ones that had held the lead from atis camp.

I was refering to the 2900 being "nxt gen", so what im saying is that its like upgrading to something you think is going to be topend, only for a new next gen card to come out, like the HD4000+ for example
by: mandelore;713995the funny thing is i meant to tell u in my first post that i understood what you were saying, but somehow i forgot to mention it....and to add to your statement...

isn't that the price we pay for technology.
All this card is, is an 8800GTS 512MB with higher clocks. I think I'll stick with my 8800GTX for now, even the 9800GX2 doesn't impress me that much for the price. I can grab a second 8800GTX for like $320...
by: Bluefox1115;714017Sadly the gfx industry is at a standstill atm cause they are too anxious to wait and release a card with actual improvement.

256-bit, 16 ROPs? I'm not impressed.
Meh, just get the 8800GTS G92 instead, more or less the same card. Save yourself the extra $100.
you guys do understand they have tweaked the core from the G92 in the 8800s correct? hence why the lower clocked GX2 outperforms a pair of GTS in sli
by: cdawall;714248Tweaked like the 7800 to 7900 was lol.. Laughable difference that was.

Also dont forget that these are sposed to overclock insanely well...

This 9800gtx is to the 8800GTS as 8800Ultra was to the 8800GTX...
by: ktr;714778EXACTLY. This is why I have an 8800GTX, and may buy another. :)

by: flashstar;713734well the 3870 cant stand up to an 8800GT priced @ 200 or to the 160 9600GT. To be honest, this new card could tie the 3870 X2, as it is faster than the Ultra and the x2 is only marginally faster than the Ultra, that would just be wicked for Nvidia to tie ATI's flagship with a single chip solution. Then we all know who gets the last laugh.

Im just hoping that by the time non reference design 1gb versions of this (pokes palit guy with a stick) are out, we'll have more concrete details on the ATI HD4xxx series, THEN i'll decide what to do

...with a price tag somewhere below $350.
by: AsRock;714588and if you look at the oc difference between the G70 and G71 you will notice G71 did what 200mhz faster core seeds?
Tweaked like the 7800 to 7900 was lol.. Laughable difference that was.
Probably only worth upgrading from a g92 if you have the EVGA Step Up program, if not, disregard.
It is too bad that you can not SLI one of these with a 8800GTS for a three way. That would be the boom!:respect:

whahu talkin bout?
1+1 != 3
ANyone else see a problem with those proposed specs? I see one problem. GDDR3!
by: JrRacinFan;717098i don't look at the 3870 GDDR3/GDDR4 its very negligible gains in FPS between the two

I didnt realize there was a gddr3, only the x2 gddr3
thats right though, there seems to be no changes within the ram, there are 256mb cards that horribly outdo 1gb cards.

by: 3870x2;717123of course that will happen who expects a 1gb 8500GT to beat a 256mb 3850?

by: cdawall;717113Yes, but couldn't it also be construed that GDDR4 can clock higher than GDDR3?

Also meaning, making the card itself perform even better?! I guess I just don't understand your point.
by: JrRacinFan;717640yes it could theoretically clock higher but you have to remember there are timings involved and they can slow down the high clock speed ;)

and more voltage to boot which = more heat.
