As Solid State Drives (SSDs) are gaining speed quickly, memory manufacturer G.Skill today decided to join in with two SSD drives (model: FS-25S2-32GB). Available in 32GB and 64GB capacity, the G.Skill 2.5-inch SATAII drives are robust substitutes for normal hard drives (HDDs). I would really like to get a ssd but the price on them is still pretty high... but they are coming down pretty fast...hopefully my next build will have one.
When they come out with a 250gb version, I will upgrade. Also, why do they not have 3.5" models?
I think because the big market they are targeting right now is the notebook and portable industry. The "non-moving parts" section. But, you could always buy an adapter.

What does that mean exactly? Why "all"? Why "portable computers". Wouldnt this be good for many other devices, like servers (many blade servers use 2.5"), media players, fixed NAS, desktops.

A 32GB SSD is enough for the OPS!
My 320GB SATAII and my 200GB HDD is enougf space for music, films, and games!
If the price for a 32GB SSD is about 200Bucks I buy one!
So I think for the next 1 or 2 years I would stay with my SATAII :D

sounds good but my lappy HDD is only 80Gb - & this would be more a downgrade then upgrade.

Thanks about the language installation issue. I have a lock-down security. Programs are not allowed to script their own installations. So rather than flash skipping the install (because it cant), it brings down iexplorer! Bad programming!

With more companies the price will drop or i hope so :)
i think all these SSD's are the same drives. all these companies drives are in the 80-120MB/s range in their speed claims, and they're all 2.5" and 32/64GB.
oh and as people have said - these are small, but they'd make one helluva OS drive ;) reach 128GB or 256GB and you'll fit the games as well...

I'll getting a SSD for the laptop I keep meaning to build. However, I'll build my own until then. Much cheaper even if the capacity will be less.
Nice little article. I'll keep my eyes open for the next installment CF v4.0. That might be worth considering.
