Microsoft Corp. today announced that the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system has sold over 10 million units in the U.S., making it the first current-generation gaming console to break the 10 million mark in the U.S. The U.S. install base contributes to global sales of over 19 million.
"This year will be the largest in the history of the video game industry, with Xbox 360 leading the charge in the U.S. and abroad," said Don Mattrick, senior vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. "History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle. We are uniquely positioned to set a new benchmark for the industry."
This announcement comes on the heels of one of the biggest entertainment launches in history, "Grand Theft Auto IV," on April 29, 2008. Gamers eager to experience "Grand Theft Auto IV" online helped boost Xbox LIVE global membership to over 12 million this month. Fueled by an unparalleled combination of access to friends and family, the best online gaming features, and the best entertainment content, the Xbox LIVE service has doubled in membership in only one year's time.
"Reaching an installed base of 10 million consoles in the U.S. is a significant achievement and an essential milestone on the road to market leadership," said Billy Pidgeon, research manager at IDC. "Perhaps more important is the Xbox 360 worldwide online base — 12 million Xbox LIVE gamers is the largest community in the connected console games sector, which represents the greatest growth opportunity in the console market and where Microsoft has been the leader for two generations."
Xbox 360 leads with the industry's highest software attach rate, more than any other console this generation, and is home to the best-selling games. With the launch of "Grand Theft Auto IV" in April, Xbox 360 is now the home to more than 16 platinum titles that have sold through 1 million units or more, including hits such as "Halo 3," "Madden NFL 07" and "Madden NFL 08," "Gears of War," "Guitar Hero II" and "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock," and "Call of Duty 2," Call of Duty 3" and "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare," giving Xbox 360 two times more platinum-selling titles than the Wii and a 16:2 lead over the PlayStation 3 in game titles topping one million in sales. Games not only sell better on the Xbox 360, they play better, too: Xbox 360 has 91 titles with a Metacritic review score of 80 or higher, compared with just 22 titles for Wii and 50 titles for PlayStation 3.

12 million xbox live members, thats gotta be more that WoW by now?????

Good sales...But what company really cares about sales figures in the US right now? The U.S. dollar is worthless.
This is just big buisiness touting sales, as if it meant anything.

Obligatory: But it's only 5 million unique sales since half of them died :D
I wish it was worth a little more! here in the UK pertol (GAS) prices will be at £1.50 per litre by the end of the year, thats near $12 a gallon.

Uhhh, I think you are forgetting Xbox 360 came out a whole year ahead of PS3. I own both, but I wouldn't doubt if PS3 passes Xbox 360 in total sales within two years. The numbers are definitely higher too, since I know that many people went to buy a replacement Xbox 360 for the RROD ones (before the three year warranty) or bought a back up one.
by: Ravenas;792928If this was an article about Sony, you'd say "OMG MS FAIL ON ALL FRONTS!"

by: Dangle;793206Lol, and yet you have nothing logical to say other than a message that is unlogically attacking me. :toast: Reported.

LoL, you only claim $3,500,000,000 of revenue insignificant? What about the 9 million non-US sales? What about the 12,000,000 x $50/year XBL sales? What about the Highest attach rate of any console? What about 16:2 platinum game sales over PS3?
You always only have negative things to say about X360 and MS - even with sales figures like these. :nutkick:

Duty teacher!! Dangle won't get off the swing set and he made fun of me!
I wonder how many of those 10M had the 3 rig of death....Is it in the millions?
by: DaMulta;7932273 of my 4 xbox360s have had red ring of death.

by: Dangle;793226I actually said at the beginning of my post these are good sales. Good sales have nothing to do with the american dollar being worthless. Post something logical rather than ranting mindlessly.

How is 3.5 billion insignificant?
It's not totally worthless....I could say I'm glad we still don't have to carry a giant pocket book yet....

by: Dangle;793257Yes, and those are (the majority of them) extremely good sales. You have still yet to make a point besides feeding your own fire of wanting to flame someone for your own satisfaction.
9million foreign sales
EDIT: And yet I never said those sales are insignificant, I said the U.S. dollar is worthless. Lol.
@ DaMulta: Xbox360 sales aren't that high in China. 5 million of those 9 million foreign sales can be accounted in Europe alone (where the profit maragin there is extremely good).
Why do you think €2,265,775,066.10 is worthless? Holy shiv, how much do you make?
by: Dangle;793276Lol, are you actually attempting to compare profits of a large corporation to a single person.
Are you saying that €2,265,775,066.10 is worthless? Holy shiv, how much do you make?
EDIT: Again I'll repeat what I said. Great sales! Foreign sales are extremely good at the present time.
Well personally i would think that the xbox was suppose to have sold more than the other two systems since it was launched a year ahead...
I am not suprised to see 360 was the first to 10million units sold. These numbers do not include units replaced due to failure. i find it funny that all the 360 haters love the ps3. its not like the ps3 is without its faults. i own both i am still on my first 360 and now about to go onto my third ps3. the ps3 does not have the same full hardware meltdown but the ps3 does have a fault with the blu ray drive and the number of affected units has rissen above 300000 know units to have blu ray drives to go bad
It's all very nice to have sold 10M consoles.
However, take out 3,000,000 faulty units from that number (roughly 30% according to some repair workshops) and you'll have the total amount of consoles actually in use.
The failure rate seems to have seriously decreased though with the latest models benefiting from a better cooling design. :) Microsoft seemed to get the act together.
The point I'm trying to make is beware of those great sales numbers which can hide some nasty things.:D

by: Ravenas;792928Uh... how about every company in the world cares about sales figures.

no sales = no company.
What would you have them do? pack up and move to a country that uses the Euro? Then you could complain about how Microsoft stole a bunch of jobs from the US working class? Should every business move to the strongest currency base?
I don't understand anything you ever say. How many of your posts result in about 5 more posts explaining what you meant? Why don't you report me as well since you think everyone is attacking you?
Dangle, don't waste your time with this guy. If it were PS3 sales he would have been happy.
:rockout:
by: spacejunky;794072I don't think everyone is attacking me, far from it. However, you still have yet to prove any point here besides saying, "no sales = no company" (as if you just came up with some ingenius thought ). From what a checked everything else said in your post is a off your point and mindlessly ranting.

Apparently some people have a hard time reading, so I guess I will attempt to help.
Again...These are good sales. However, as of right now the U.S. dollar is horrible. Foreign sales are the jack pot right now (and I'm not saying they don't have good foreign sales).
The above is the point of everything I have said... Everything else that you have put in your own heads is just part of your own biases.
So again, you have yet to prove a point :)
:toast:
The Wii must have sold more than 10m, is it excluded for some reason?
by: Ravenas;794369Please shut up your off topic and desirved the comments you reseaved at the beginning of this thread for disreguarding the topic being discussed as usless. If you thought the sales figures shown were useless because of where they are why would you take the time to comment on them?

I find X360 the coolest product from Microsoft to date. Everything else they make is a bit too formal. Who would have thought IBM would one day make CPU's for video-game consoles?
Good going MS.
Good going MS.

The U.S. dollar being horrible is an economic situation. You saying that I have in anyway said the sales are useless is simply putting words in my mouth. Someone who approaches the topic with a shut up obviously holds some form of bias.

Furthermore, I've continued to talk about sales, all you have done is tell me to shut up and talk what I've said.. Lol, who's off topic my friend?
by: btarunr;794411I think that comment is one of the many great success stories surrounding the entire situation. :toast: IBM never ceases to impress.

by: Dangle;794602Good discussion Dangle. You're right don't worry about it anymore! :toast:
Ravenas, you are retarded. Nobody agrees with you. Sure the dollar has weakened by about %15 in the past couple of years, but we're talking about a HUGE volume of dollars. not ONE dollar. $3.5 billion (or the value of 2.97 billion 2 years ago) is a lot of fkn revenue. Your posts almost never make any sense. If this was Sony news, you'd have a field day. Keep in mind, One dollar will still go a lot farther in America than one euro will go in Europe, or 100 yen will go in Japan.
Thanks. Cheers. BTW, the mods didn't contact me.
Yes, we did. Please don't let this kind of behavior continue on the forum. Thank you.

Actually, you did not read my post it appears. For someone who is so intent on proving the precision of his own text you write with rather loose lips.

That is you saying its useless. You implied it, its not a bias on our part its on yours. If your not willing to say yeah I was incorrect or at least rejustify yourself then you should not talk.
You were off topic for continuing this discussion completely removed from the original topic where as I stayed on topic and addressed a side issue. (Now I am doing what you did)
Its annoying to see you scurry around the issue were talking about (Claiming no one has points that any person with any reasoning skills could find.) and pretend you cant see the lack of validity in your own statements.
Don't worry, im done, I may have gone to far. Im leaving the topic before I help lock it down.
If someone does know about the wii's relation to these figures please pm me I would be happy to know. (The Wii must have sold more than 10m, is it excluded for some reason?)
