Abit to Exit Motherboard Market

It is confirmed that abit, maker of high-end and gaming motherboards will exit the business of motherboards. The production is to stop by the end of this year. HEXUS.channel has confirmed this as fact from sources close to South East Asian distributors, all of which will be notified by their abit sales contacts from today onwards.

The company will continue to sell motherboards till the end of the year and will honour RMA and warranties for three years subsequently. This first made news as rumours back in May, and back then abit responded that they had no intentions of leaving the market, apparently because they weren't intended to move out back then.

I'll miss Abit, but haven't had one since my AS8 i865pe board. It is still a great performer...if they would've had a better BIOS team, I think they would've held on for another few months! I'll miss seeing them compete or trying to! :toast:

This was announced a while back. There were rumors about the "big three" in early 2007. ASUS and Gigabyte are next. I remember several articles right here on TPU on how ASUS is planning slowly to abandon the motherboard market and jump onto the notebook and miniPC/SSF market. EeePC and subsequent desktop versions of EeePC were step one. Nothing to worry about though, since you can expect the likes of Biostar and similar to fill the vacum.

Biostar and ECS have turned up good boards in the last few months, DFI expanded from the LANparty LT, UT series to the more affordable and awesome DK (dark) series. Who can forget BloodIron?

I've only had 2 ABit mobos but both gave me no issue's cannot say about the 1st one as it was like 7 or so years ago but neither have broken down on me. Shame as i always considered getting a new one each time i build a system for my self.

Abit have always been a good mobo maker, they are just overpriced. I had the abit digidice SFF....was such a good little machine!

The best motherboards I've ever had was the Abit BE6 and NF7-S 2.0. But well, thing's haven't been so well the last few years though.. On the other hand, other brands have picked themselves up a bit. Like Gigabyte.

Oh well Gigabyte are the motherboard kings, I have ha plenty of Asus MBs in my time and have 2 now, but there bios releases suck, I have only ever owned one abit board in my life, cant say there was anything wrong with it, but the market is only small copmpared to the Mobile pc market these days. The desktop pc is a dying breed.

I HIGHLY doubt Abit is going anywhere. In the article cited, it said something along the lines of the company making high end motherboards, which is semi-true, but most of Abit's boards are M-Atx and low cost boards, cheaper than most Gigabyte boards actually. I think this is more pure speculation seeing how there is no press release confirming this directly from Abit. Someone quits their job, ok, so someone else is hired, DUH! It's a way of life in business and retail. EVERYONE is expendable. :wtf:

abit haven't confirmed this yet, so I don't know how this can be taken as "fact". However, things don't look great, as they've been pretty slow to market with P45 and all AMD boards. If they do cease motherboard production, it will suck, as they are my favourite current manufacturer. My previous favourite (Epox) has also disappeared, so it's a double whammy. I really don't like the looks or layout of Asus and Gigabyte boards, so I guess I'll look to Biostar in the future.

wasnt there an earlier post here about Abit refuting claims that it was exiting the motherboard market??? the whole story started off as a rumour & Abit denied that it was leaving & now theyve U-turned & announced they are leaving the market??????

Possibility splitting from USI, that or selling their stuff to another Board Maker, IP35-Pro and XE were rockin, the P45 looks to the the same way and the X48 variant being awesome, AMD side there is a 750 board but no AMD chipsets.

i have had a frew abit boards, all of them was good, until my AT8 crapped out, so now am a gigabyte user :rolleyes:
