The ATI RV730 graphics processor in its Radeon HD 4670 avatar was reviewed by Chinese website IT168. Findings of the review show the card outclassing its predecessor, the RV635, and deliver a level of performance close to that of the RV670-based Radeon HD 3850 512MB. Several tests that include 3DMark Vantage, Crysis Single Player Demo and Call of Duty 4 among other game tests were run. The highlight of the test was where the HD 4670 produced up to 100% performance gains over the NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT in the Crysis Single Player Demo test, more or less explaining NVIDIA's possible move to bring in a GeForce 9550 GT. Across several tests, the RV730 trailed the HD 3850 by a small margin of FPS.

The RV730 GPU features the same number of stream processors as that of the HD 3850, while it uses a narrower 128-bit memory bus. The HD 4650 has a 600 MHz core clock speed, while the HD 4670 uses a much higher 750 MHz core clock speed.

i think that Nvidia will just rename 8800GT in to 9550GTS :) and that will be it :D

That would be so retarded. The 8800GT would have three names, 9800GT, what you said and 8800GT. DONT GIVE THEM IDEAS!

Its honestly extremely fast for a card that size... So this was how the HD2600XT was supposed to turn out... lol.

I wonder if RV730 overclocks to >1GHz as it's predecessors...

so what yall are saying this is basically a 3850 but with the Flaws Fixed (AA/AF forceing doesnt take a massive toll)

It also doesnt use a ring bus, unlike the HD3850, which was another flaw of it.
by largon (September 3rd - 8:44 AM) - Reply
Funny that the ringbus was a hyped feature in R600 but a performance hindering flaw for RV670...

looks like a winner to me, looks like it would be good in a HTPC or a second box, id even get it if i was just needing something to go by on something better

Very nice, I can't wait for its release and some detailed reviews and most importantly pricing information. I'd also like to see some AA and AF settings, some of the things that really push the memory bus. Somehow I think the HD3850 will pull away once AA and AF are enabled simply because of the larger memory bus, however the AA and AF fixes might negate that.

I agree. At first I was like, pshaw to the results when compared with the 3850. Then I thought about it and I was like, well it is the midrange of the 3xxx series and the 3870 was the high end. Very respectable showing. Id like to know power draw of this card.

well the 9550GT is supposed to be a G94 with 192bit bus, so it should easily take this card

Isn't the 9550GT also going to have 48 SP's instead of the full 64? Either way, it will give this a run for it's money.

I really wish nVidia would get off their asses and actually put out some new cards instead of falling back on old technology to fill the lower end gaps.

the G94 was meant to compete with this, the 8800GS was the real HD3850 compitor, the 9500GT just came out early. And compared to the GTX280 is not a midrange.

It's mildy better than my current X1800XT. Not by a hell of a lot. Definitely not enough to warrant paying for a new card. :( I'd like it though lol

IMO new product should bring new level of performance or new level of performance for amount of money. I guess that AMD need that money badly. I bet that die is not bigger by much compared to 3650 and is 128 vs 256 bit so the PCB is cheaper to manufacture and still that prices. And yes I know that we are buying technology and the sylicon but there is space for lower prices.
