F.E.A.R. Sequel to be Called F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

Monolith has been working on a sequel to F.E.A.R. called Project Origin. This time around, Monolith is working for a different publishing house, that's Warner Bros. Interactive, and so couldn't use the F.E.A.R. trademark that Sierra (in effect Activision-Blizzard) owned. In a recent statement at the community website, the developers announced that they have purchased the name F.E.A.R. from Activision-Blizzard as they continue developing the title in its new complete name: F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin.

The game is being developed for Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 platforms. It will be published under the Warner Bros. Interactive banner and is slated for February 3 in Europe and Feb. 10 in North America. Being a sequel, the game is said to "continue the legacy of the original F.E.A.R. game with story and combat while adding new twists, gameplay and graphics to expand the players' experience." It takes off where the original title's story leaves: "A Special Forces squad is on a routine mission when the city of Auburn is rocked by a supernatural explosion. Alma, a girl with immense power and a thirst for revenge, has unleashed her wrath upon the city and thrown it into chaos. The squad must combat enemy forces and the supernatural as they struggle to find a way to stop Alma and uncover the mysterious forces arrayed against them before it's too late." A new trailer has been published on the community website.

Personally I like Project Origin better than FEAR. I loved FEAR 1, I loved the exp pack, and I hope I like FEAR 2. Good game, one of my all time top favorites.

Looks like the same GFX as the original which today look fairly crap, PS3/XBOX360 is probally their main concearn, PC version will be an afterthought especialy now they are with warner bros, consoles is where da cash is at.

FEAR was good but STALKER was better.

The developers need to try very hard to get out of the "corridor" maps and action pre-scripting of FEAR 1. While it was very much better than DOOM3, it still suffered from the DOOM design style.

FEAR has one of the best AIs I've ever played against. They would regroup, double back and try to get you from behind if you accidentally left a couple alive.

The expansion was pretty boring though. I couldn't muster the energy to play it through, and some other games took it's place.

What is really cool though is that the FEAR multiplayer is free for everyone to download and play, and is stand-alone thus not requiring the original game.

Agreed. Oh mang, if STALKER had multiplayer it would be like Deus Ex on a bunch of steroids and crack cokkain.

I'm sure I'll enjoy playing this one. Love the first one, still play it multiplayer. Sucky part about the free multilayer client when you own the game is you can't just switch back and forth (example for changing some settings). It has to reload the game. Wish they had made it one piece for those that own it.

I've played Fear over and over again with each video card I got... I gotta say, playing it at 1am is nothing but dream works... I still got freaked by the girl the first few times... even the 4th time around... lol

I just am glad it's called by the name given... At lease a person will know it's the 2nd and not just another game...

not by a long shot - the newer graphics are similar in style in some aspects to the old, but the developers have come a long way with revamping the whole thing.

Been keeping up with their developer updates for months now, and they've thoroughly thought things through. It appears that everything that was considered a "flaw" of the original (repetitive graphics, story, gameplay) they're addressing. From the looks of things as well, we should see physics implimentations that should steal the physics crown from Crysis.

Ai was superb with the original as well - although it's weakest area was AI in large spaces . . . it became all too easy to outsmart them. And I believe the developers have mentioned before this will be addressed as well :toast:
