When Toshiba set out to reset the bar for high performance gaming laptops and revamp its flagship gaming line, the company turned to NVIDIA for its expertise in visual computing. The combined efforts of both companies resulted in Toshiba's most powerful gaming laptop to date featuring the new highly integrated GeForce 9400M graphics processing unit (GPU) along with a pair of NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS enthusiast-class GPUs. The Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q708 and X305-Q706, the first pair of laptops to incorporate three powerful NVIDIA GPUs, give users a choice between maximum performance and quiet operation.

“We wanted to deliver an extreme-performance gaming machine that gives gamers a complete, non-compromising system in a laptop form factor,” said Carl Pinto, vice president of product development, digital products division for Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. “The combination of the NVIDIA GPUs and chipset allowed us to achieve a high level of performance, quality and flexibility that our customers are asking for, at a competitive starting price of $1,999.”

The unique design featuring three NVIDIA GPUs enables the Qosmio X305-Q708 and X305-Q706 laptops to deliver scorching gaming performance by combining the horsepower of two discrete GeForce 9800M GTS GPUs with NVIDIA SLI technology, and allows the option of switching to a quiet operation mode with NVIDIA Hybrid SLI technology. In Hybrid SLI operation, the powerful 9800M GTS GPUs are powered down and graphics operation is transferred to the GeForce 9400M GPU. As a result, Toshiba Qosmio laptops are able to deliver record-breaking gaming performance at high resolutions, while enabling a quiet state when powering other types of Windows Vista applications.

“The Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q708 is a world-class gaming laptop that uses NVIDIA graphics processors to solve real problems and add real value for notebook users,” said Rene Haas, general manager of the notebook business unit at NVIDIA. “We were thrilled to be able to partner with Toshiba to deliver this ground-breaking new product.”

The Qosmio X305-Q708 and X305-Q706 laptops are now available for purchase directly from Toshiba at http://www.toshibadirect.com.

When I read the title my first thought was trisli laptop OMG! Now I see it's not, but this makes me wonder if you can use the 9400 for physx, on second thought nevermind, you cant you have to have at least 246mb of vram to do that. would be cool though.

That thing is sick looking though! that is one pretty laptop!

Wow, that is pretty awesome. I like seeing Toshiba get serious about gaming type notebooks. Granted, battery life is probably like 45 minutes but hey, there are always outlets!!!!

Does anyone see the resemblance between some of MSI's Gxxx laptops & this Toshiba one???

IMHO I think Toshiba are trying to out do MSI. So they decided they would do a '1 better' by throwing out a latop that supports 3-way SLi to get everyones attention. which in this case can either be a VERY stupid idea or a very clever one. - Im sure they WILL sell (about one or 2) but i reckon that it woulda been a better idea to keep this a prototype instead of a full production model - they will make hardly any profit out of these but as it is - Millionaires will be Millionaires, Billionaires will be Billionaires & the lower working class citizens will just hold on to their cash until they find a bargain thats not bloated & mega overpriced which this one WILL be.

nothing my friends or family bought made by Toshiba has ever lasted a year before breaking down. MSI might chuck all sorts of random shit into their laptops such as the air purifyer idea etc etc but at least they keep it simple & keep their laptops at a level that even the working class can afford without thinking twice.

Any one here a son of a rich millionaire??

I have a Gateway p7811fx with a single 9800m gts and p8400...with a 2600mah battery, I can get 3 hours of web surfing.

Now that Toshiba has a 9400 along with a pair of 9800m gts. So it can probably turn off the pair of 9800m gts. Also it has a 3200mah battery. It should have decent battery life with all that power, but it all depends if it can turn off those 9800's.

But this 706/708 is a guzzler, look at the a/c adapter...230watts! Mine is 120watts.

Also the 9800m GTS RUNS HOT...so that toshiba must have some heavy duty cooling.

Finally, WTF is with the screen resolution!?!?! 1680x1050!?!?! Where is the 1920x1200?!?! SO MUCH POWER ON SUCH A SHITTY SCREEN!

edit: forgot to add. The 9800m GTS is a 9600gt. And we know that a pair of 9600gt are awesome, with an 80%+ scaling. I wonder if we can expect the same scaling performance with the 706/708

I think it's a good idea. It virtually lengthens the life of the laptops use. You get more time to max out your favorite games and won't have to compensate for high resolutions. :P

Meh just have it plugged in at the mains.

For a lappy that looks so fine.

But with hybrid SLI on this laptop, batterylife sure would last longer in case you were just using win apps. Its better than the dual 3870 Alienware imo.

Toshiba must be making a killer profit when they sell the 708...

708 is $1k over priced, for its a 706 ($2000) + quad ($1000) + sdd ($200) = $3200...but sold at $4200.

Lame...toshiba...lame.

how is killer profit lame? (never run a business huh:laugh: )
