How's this demo version different from the one people have been playing for a few days now?

It's the same thing. I think the line was just misquoted. It should read: "The official demo for the game is available now through November 17 for the PC and Xbox 360." This does not imply that the demo just came out today.

Can't wait for the official release. Kind of hesitant on purchasing though. It's a great game and all but I'm not sure how many people I'll have to play with. Playing with people you know is a lot more fun than playing on your own.

Ah -- thought they had maybe released a better demo today. :p

I've been having fun playing with people I know on the demo, too, but I just don't want to spend $45 on it. :p

Maybe if the price comes down or it gets released in a nice package deal, kinda like this. :D

I'm pretty sure you won't ever have to worry about playing by yourself. The game is great and very difficult on the hardest setting. The xbox360 version seemed a little dumbed down for console players though. I guess they feel console goes to the masses. Valve is great i"m still addicted to tf2. This game will only distract me but it will be worth every penny.

been playing it for a few days now (the demo) with friends.

Great system, the "friends only" mode works awesome... so long as my friends have steam open, they get these little popups they can click and bam, they're in my server.

problems we've had have only occured in the last 12 hours or so, there was a steam update and an update to the game, that have cause us connection problems (steam keeps logging out repeatedly for a few of my friends)

cheesemonkeygreat demo but i keep crashing.... :|
Yea, it crashes at the most inopportune times too. I can't stand the infamous sound loop that happens when Valve games crash. I guess it happens with other games as well, but it really gets to me when it happens with TF2 / CSS / HL2 / L4D.

cheese and fatforester: both of you have x-fi cards. this could be related... do yourselves a favour and disable that, and see if you still have issues with your onboard sound.

Played the demo, ran fine kinda fun but as I suspected it gets boring fast. No 50 bucks for this as I'm sure after a couple of somewhat funny and somewhat exiliarating rounds it will get stale. That's my 2 canadian cents. ( .025 american) ;)

+1. Played through the 2 levels in offline mode on normal and it was so short, repetitive and out of control. I mean when you walk indoors and suddenly like 20 people sprint at you, you start shooting randomly in all direction from pressure, and playing in team doest seem add any meaning. All you care about in the moment of ambush is how to escape and shoot all around you. So either this or take out idle zombies without effort because they just standing. Its also isnt scary at all, if it meant to be, because you can always revive or respawn and you getting used to ambushes after few times. So overall this game didnt impress me. Except the native co-op, achievements and match finder, doom 3 with coop mod isnt worse. Btw whats up with 50 clip m16? Is it realistic or just for balance?

Great demo folks but crashes too often. That or you can't play because lag doesn't permit.

This isn't one of those Valve games that makes me very interested though. It's like Valve took the entire world of Half-Life and put zombies in it. Furthermore, I hate how linear and confined the game can be. I'm just basing this off the demo though...

The pros of the game are the fact that you can kill zombies in awesome ways and the zombies look like Valve took a very close look at 28 days and 28 weeks later. Team work is also a must in this game, kinda cool.

One thing I don't like about the game though is that it looks and plays and feels like a console game ported to the PC. idk...just does.

yeah. that happened after the patches... most of its because the game is confined to online mode atm, and it keeps spazzing out with what i'll call crack detection. it keeps thinking steam is offline or not running, and therefore drops out of the game. No idea why thats in a demo.

Its not too linear... theres at least two routes through most areas, and you can always have the room to backtrack, or split into teams of two.

agreed 100%. the zombies look good, they die good, and teamwork is a must - loners get attacked by the bosses, and cant do a damn thing without backup.

well... yeah. but its simple and it works. its not like some console games, where the controls hold you back or anything.

Yeah, you're right it doesn't go as far as say Gears of War, but it does give the player a hint of console port, especially if you've been a long time avid PC gamer.
