Upcoming Intel Mainstream LGA775 Product Line-up Refresh Leaked

Believe it or not, although the Core i7 processors have just became available, Intel won't be giving up on its LGA 775 product line-up. According to the trustworthy reporters at DailyTech, on January 18, Intel will launch three new Core 2 Quad processors with a TDP of just 65W. These will be the Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200s (2.33GHz, 4MB L2 cache, FSB 1333MHz), Q9400s (2.66GHz, 6MB L2 cache, FSB 1333MHz), and Q9550s (2.83GHz, 12MB L2 cache, FSB 1333MHz) models, priced at $245, $320 and $369 respectively. All three models differ from their brothers from the s-letter in their nomenclature. Intel will also launch a new 2.6GHz Pentium Dual Core E5300 processor in November of this year and one more, the 2.7GHz Pentium Dual Core E5400 on January 18th next year. The second CPU will be priced at $84 when available. Lastly, Intel's power efficient 35W processor lineup will also see some changes at the end of the year. The new T9800 (2.70GHz, 6MB L2 cache, FSB 1066MHz, $530), Q9000 (2.00GHz, 6MB L2 cache, FSB 1066MHz, $348), P9600 (2.66GHz, 6MB L2 cache, FSB 1066MHz, $348), T9550 (2.66GHz, 6MB L2 cache, 1066MHz, $316), and P9600 (2.53GHz, 3MB L2 cache, FSB 1066MHz, $241) will be released then.

I'm not surpised by this at all. It will be a while before the mainstream Corei7 socket and chipsets are launched so they need to keep socket 775 going for a little while longer. Most people will not be jumping on the nehalem bandwagon in the near future and folks at Intel understand this, i think 775 will be with us for another year or so. Abandoning 775 would mean a total surrender to AMD which has its own CPUs lined up for the very near future and which may finally offer competition to the C2D/C2Q line.

thats correct. though i wasnt referring to official support but to its viability and popularity among end users. It was a very successful and long lasting socket afterall.

Quite right I agree,...

However, I have to wonder if the current price of DDR3 RAM played a part in keeping LGA775 alive with new CPUs. Price point is key to selling product after all.

Q8200, 1333MHz bus, 4Mb of cache 45nm at a price just over $200? Now thats one bad motha CPU for the price that will definitely own the Q6600 after.

EDIT: I guess Intel seems to notice the surveys that we want Core2 to stay as an awesome computing buddy, not to ditch for the 3x more priced i7 series. Either way, I'm waiting for Kingston and OCZ to start coughing out their financial trends with DDR3 and see a 1333MHz kit go under $50, then it will the time to upgrade to Corei7. After all, the 920 is more poweful that the QX9770 in some games which isn't a bad start...

I wonder if it will perform the same as the current Q9550 just with a lower TDP! That'd be a nice cool chip to work with!

Ya, the LGA1336's are not really being marketed to enthusiasts... Which means something is probably around the corner for us as the 775's get phased out probably like said above 2010..
