After outlining the phase out schedule for its Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor, Intel today reported that it is retiring two more CPUs - the 2.66GHz Core 2 Quad Q6700 Kentsfield (65nm) quad-core and the 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo E4700 Allendale (65nm) dual-core. Intel will be taking orders for both processors until March 24, 2009 and shipping them until June 4, 2010 in trays, and until July 3, 2009 boxed.

I didn't even think the Q6700 was still being made, I thought they discontinued it a while ago, I certainly haven't seen any for sale in a long while.

Not much reason to it's still a hot chip for 99% of use.

I am with Newteki, I thought they were already gone. News to me that they are still being made.

E4700 is a quite new processor (came april), but it's beaten by E5200 in price and propably with performance. With E5300 out soon, by both. I don't get why would they still make those and why would someone order them still next year. Real news would be where do all these chips go, they aren't on market :)

No $327.... They still even have a few 8800GTX's laying around they are still asking $450ish for. Distributors are stupid, I mean I told him I wanted an Asus P5Q, he tried to sell me a MicroATX P5Q without Raid, the whole reason I wanted that over the P5Q-SE was it had RAID, and I told him that in the first place... Sales reps are useless... I would get a new distributor but these guys get me my stuff fast and never charge shipping, plus its really nice and easy to rma stuff to them.

I hope so, but doubt it.

Yeah, I was really hoping that by the time they killed of the 65nm quads, the Q9650 would at least be in the $300 range.

Unfortunately unless AMD comes up with an i7 price/performance killer Intel can afford to keep the prices relatively high.
