AMD Chalks-Out Chipset Launch Schedule for 2009

The year 2009 could be very decisive for AMD, with a fleet of desktop processors awaiting launch within H1, 2009. The company will also be preparing supportive core logic for compatibility with AM3 socket CPUs. Listed, are the highlights for the chipset division's product plans, as compiled by industry observer DigiTimes:

The introduction of a value-oriented IGP chipset in January 2009, the AMD 760G, based on the RS780 architecture. This is expected to replace AMD 740G. It offers a DirectX 10 IGP without support for UVD, Hybrid Crossfire or DisplayPort. To be accompanied by AMD SB710 southbridge.
The introduction of high-end AMD 790FX and 790GX chipsets that have been upgraded with native AM3 socket support, in May or June. To be accompanied by AMD SB750 southbridge.
The company will introduce the RX780-based AMD 770, which also gets its share of changes that bring in AM3 socket compatibility, in July or August. To be accompanied by SB710.
A next generation IGP-based RS880 northbridge would be introduced in May or June, also accompanied by SB710.
Finally in September, the company will launch a proper successor to the 790FX, in the form of RD890, and the introduction of the new SB800 southbridge.

RD890 for me please! My old 790FX with SB600 will need an upgrade.

i think AMD is intoducing a lot of confusion with these name changes, why cant the they call the RD890 -- 890FX? Same goes for RS880? The FX suffix is their brand name (like with their CPUs) and all these name changes are confusing the consumer, and i think some enthusiast also will have hard time keeping up. Same goes for their CPUs, why in the world would they want to number the Denebs 940, 945, etc, just to confuse with Intel?

Say whatever you want about Intel, at least they have been pretty consistent with their chipset and CPU model number schemes. I think AMD will benefit from the same kind of continuity.

RS = Mainstream/value with integrated graphics, RSxxx with "D" indicates high-end with int. gfx. with "C" indicates value version with int gfx.
RX = Mainstream/value without integrated graphics
RD = High-end without integrated graphics

Numbering: RD/RS/RX ABC, A = Generation, B = Class, C = usually revision.

Well I'll be darned 790GX gets reworked with native AM3 support. Well no upgrade for me.

Anyways whats the deal with SB 710??? is that like a reworked sb750????

So the AM3 CPU is out in Febuary but AMD aren't releasing a AM3 motherboard till May or June that isn't so good. I'm stuck without a Deneb compatible motherboard and don't really want to upgrade to am2+ this late in the game. So I will have to wait till June or get intel :/

You forgot to add time for proper BIOS updates to make all this new stuff work.

I may snag the new M3a79T Asus board and new phenom then shell out more money in September of 09 for the RD890 board.

Well I wasn't sure. Just figured it was kinda odd but I get it now, probably is a variant of sb700, while sb800 will be an update to sb750.

so there is amd 790fx in the market's with SB750 but AM2+ , did dragon work on it
