Shutters Down for Abit on December 31

Abit, one of the most popular brand names with motherboards, will be formally closing shop on December 31. A popular brand among computer enthusiasts, Abit has a history of churning out some of the best high-end motherboards. Bad corporate governance, along with poor decision-making at the management level, set Abit on a path towards its slow and painful end. Revived by the United Scientific Industrial (USI) in 2006, the company showed some resurgence, it also planned to diversify into peripherals such as digital photo frames, speakers, etc., alongside its desktop motherboards lineup, but evidently it didn't help the company. Post Dec. 31, the company will continue to honour its warranty and RMA commitments for up to three years according to an earlier report. Farewell Abit!

I have been using abit since i started building my first computer, and still using the ip35 pro right now that's a beast at overclocking and stability.thanks for the great motherboards these past 10 years I really enjoyed the abit. So long ABIT! :(

i have an abit mobo thats particularly nice as my second computer, but i wonder if this affects any other products i may have.

Farwell good friend... We will miss the great quality you churned out these last 7 years or so. My ABIT AS8-V is still a rock solid board, and its the first board I learned to OC on..damn what a shame. All good things must come to an end.

can't remember whether it was the bh6 or be6 but abits 440BX motherboard and celeron 300A were some of my first overclocking adventures. Some of my favorite days are still with the abit nf7-s 2.0 and epox 8rda+. I still own a few abit boards, AW9D-Max, IN9 32-max, & IP35-Pro. Abit never really recovered the ground it lost to dfi during the nf3 & Nf4 era. I mostly continued buy abit out of loyalty and the uGuru feature was really nice. I will miss abit. Thanks for the memories.

It's effectivly the same. They just aren't killing the Abit brand name and will use it on other products.

I always used to buy Abit boards, they were good quality and really stable. Sorry to see them go.

I've been massively impressed with all abit boards I've used. My A8V is freakin' amazin' - so amazing that I might even move back over to it when I have the time.

Yeah, I too have used abit boards for the majority of the computers I have built. It's a real shame to lose another player within the market, and certainly won't help competition on price...

can i ask why , ohhh that's heart i feel this when i see ABIT x38 come with crossfire and the first pci-e run at 16x and second pci-e run at 4x , same performance of p35 that's was shame

I can't say I am a fan of Abit, but I have used a few of their boards, and never really had any problems with them. Either way, it is sad to see companies like this go under, it means less competition, which is always bad.

I've had the BP6, SE6(I think), and AW9D-Max. Almost went for their X38 board.

they where decent and if you where lucky they used to be in some pre built pcs like dells ect

not bad but i wont miss them hate to say it but support for their boards will be non existent

hell at least they weren't like msi who stop bios updates after a while

Really SAD :( Knew it was coming but I was in denial. I've owned four different Abit boards:

BX6
ST6-Raid
IC7-G
AG8

Loved them all, despite some quirks :cry: All of the first three were sold on eBay for upgrade to the next :toast:

Still have the AG8 w/ a 630@ 3.7Ghz :)

Abit forums are down again and their website seems to be in on/off mode. If they are gonna offer support for 3 years they should at least pay for those domain names for at least 3 years if not more. There are still lots of boards out there and folks will ned BIOS updates, drivers and general help from the forum.

Since not making mobos I wonder what they are going to make next? I heard they are not closing completely just ending their mobo production. A damn shame really, but who knows may be they'll make more cash making digital cameras or whatever then boards.

I love my ip35 pro board also. I was going to continue buying their boards from now on, but I guess not now.

Farewell Abit.

Perhaps we shall pass around an avatar showing a headstone of the company thats was created motherboards which were gems for any processor.
