First spotted at the recent CES 2009 event, the Zalman VF2000 LED is incing towards launch. The Korean cooling specialist added a smart bit of innovation to this GPU cooler: it can also be used to cool a CPU. The VF2000 LED is a simplistic looking GPU cooler that is compatible with most GPUs such as the NVIDIA G9x and ATI RV700 series. Designed primarily for graphics cards, the VF2000 LED maintains a short profile. It measures 126x110x45 mm and weighs 290 g. Its construction is fairly simple, consisting of a contact block from which four heatpipes emerge, conveying heat to a dense aluminum fin array. The 90mm PWM-controlled, blue LED-lit fan is embedded into a circular cavity atop the array.

The provision of additional retention modules makes this cooler compatible with the Intel LGA-775 and AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3 sockets. However, the catch is that this cooler is recommended only for CPUs with rated TDPs below 110W, and hence can't be used for overclocking adventures on air-cooling, however, its slim construction sets it up as an ideal cooler for low-profile PCs. For the same reasons, this cooler is not provided with support for the LGA-1366. Matbe sourced some pictures from the cooler's official photo shoot. For more pictures, visit this page.

that would be badass with red led...they need to start making all models in red also...

Takes up 3 slots though. Looks like I'll be sticking with the VF1000 or the GV1000. Good to see them releasing new products though. It seemed like they were on hiatus for awhile.

well the fact that it can handle two different jobs is intriguing,

Yeah for sure, do they do fans with red leds though ( and the same size) ?. As for moding the fan their a pain to do but possible. As their glued together and only other way to get to the fan pins is to cut the plastic from the back were the PCB is.

They don't they only do blue leds. And I think green led's, mostly copper, allum, and all black.

Aww, it covers two slots. I really wanted these in a CrossfireX setup.

you could still do one.

I've always wondered why some of the aftermarket cooler makers didn't release coolers that could server dual purposes. I still remember taking old Athlon heatsinks and zip-tieing them to graphics cards. I had a 9700Pro like that.

because the industry had a 1track mind back then.

If it could only do them both at the same time! Then it wouldnt matter that this thing takes up half the slots and sticks into the second graphics card. Anyone have any reviews of this thing in action, because im beginning to wonder if this product is even a valid one. I already know of too many great cpu / gpu coolers that are way more space efficient, possibly even cheaper. Just need some benchmarks to run a temp comparison.

Same thing crossed my mind... probably because the perception of a CPU cooler is that it has to be bigger than a breadbox.

i agree. blue is so ubiquitous and i'm frankly geitting tired of it. I wanna see some nvidia green and fatality red as well like they did on their CPU coolers.

I agree there....ok if big OC is the order of the day then yeah big shagass coolers are a go but for stock systems this has to be better/ more space saving and quieter than a stock cooler.

:laugh::laugh: I favor Intel , for my reasons ;) But i favor also this 90mm fan , plus the correct design of this cooler . Its true what we all wonder if VF900 or GV1000 or VF 2000 is better . I have on wish list the GV 1K , because had large body , and i was plan to mod it, and replace the fan with 90mm . What Zalman did here , was a nice trick , removed metal and add a larger fan to compensate the loss . Thats smart , the VF 2K it will cost LESS . I strongly believe , that it will be 3-4C cooler than the GV 1000, on a HD3850 with lower noise . OR , the same performance offered by the VF 900 to HD3850 , will offered by the VF 2K, to the hotter cards. Thats a good scenario , some tests will just prove that i am right , on my theory . ;) .

Almost looks like the one Asus uses except its the VF1000 I think they are using. I love the black ramsinks too that is just bad ass. Plus Im getting into the RED Led thing too Nate. My Asus has Red Leds on the bottom of the board and its bad ass :D

Yeah blue gets really old after awhile... Speaking of led colors like green or red, I'm in the proccess of building a rig with an orange/black theme (HL) and its hard to find orange LED's.

me too. orange LEDs can be bought from some online stores, you can get em either 5mm or 3mm variety.

Yeah, the only 120mm orange case fans I found are the A.C. Ryan's. These are great fans with an orange uv color, but when when I hooked them up they had "blue" leds.:shadedshu That made it a purple color. So now I had to replace the leds with orange 5mm's.

yea, thats the fans i got. the LEDs are actually UV, if you read the description the fans are called UV/LED with the fan being UV sensitive and UV LEDs providing the illumination. Im actually quite happy with those fans, i knew what i was buying from the beginning. But perhaps i may mod mine too to get pure orange color.

I dont understand why that Mobo still has a Parallel and Serial ports... lol.. I dont like the idea it takes 2 PCI slots for that block...

GV1000 looks better though.. and it looks like GV1000 also has a bigger heat sink
