abit Closes Down Forever
According to the latest news on the web, the well known motherboard manufacturer abit, once a leading provider of high-performance motherboards and video cards, will close doors forever in the month to come. Now we all know that the company halted the production of its motherboards, but it was never meant to close doors forever. Instead, abit was to move into the consumer electronics market with products like digital picture frames and mobile internet devices. Yes, but no one thought of the world economic crisis. HEXUS.net reports that abit's parent company USI has now decided to pull abit out of the channel market entirely. abit's marketing director Thore Welling commented:

After 20 years in the market the abit brand now bids farewell, so it's also time for me now to lock the doors of the marketing department. That's it for good now.If this information confirms, the whole liquidation of abit should be finished in around a month.

You killed yourself with going "cheap". Legacy free? Remember that? People stopped buying you then. Yes, you saved $1 on connectors. But you lost a lot of customers and credibility. We needed that COM port or Parallel port (at the time), and bought our mainboards elsewhere.
Actually, talking about parallel ports, anyone got a space parallel PCI/PCIX/PCIe controller? My EPROM/BIOS programmer requires a parallel port... and my new mainboard is "legacy free". :laugh:
My EVGA 680i board is good, even tho lots of people may disagree. Considering the 680i's released with lots of problems and have some OCing problems, but its overall a great board if you get one that works.:)
damn it! bad news for me since i FU**** HATE both asus and gigabyte... :banghead:
the only mobo's i'm buying now will be the dfi lanparty series...

Abit made great boards....My first crossfire board was a abit and it gamed well, didn't have many oc features but ran great....

My first build was on the Slot 1 BX6 Rev2.2 and then added the Abit "Sloket" to run a 1Ghz 100 FSB Flipchip, I still have the working setup to this day.
Also, my just previous AI7 that propelled my Bliss to extreme's is still waiting in case this Asrock gives me big crapolla.

They already did awhile back, went to DFI, and foxconn...
I got two expensive motherboards at 1995 -1997 , and the CPU fan plug got burned in both ..
Who cares if it was nice boards , the build quality was average .
Goodbye ABIT ..... i will keep alive ASUS , because it worth it.
