Solidata recently started offering new P2 2.5-inch solid-state drives that come with an IDE interface. These drives are perfect for owners of older machines that do not support SATA ports, or just people that prefer the old 80-pin IDE cables over the new SATA ones. The firm is currently offering 32 GB and 64 GB versions of the IDE SSDs. The P2 drives use MLC SSD with a maximum read speed of 90 MB/sec, and maximum write speed of 70 MB/sec. The power consumption of these drives is 0.24 W at standby while the peak consumption is 0.5 W. Dimensions are standard at 100 x 70 x 9.5 mm (width x depth x height) and the drives weight exactly 75 g.

Very interesting. A great way to give a bit of extra robustness and speed to an older laptop/industrial mainboard. Price is a mystery. I'm a buyer if it is as cheap as SATA editions (IDE is usually more expensive and slower than SATA SSD).

if it is more expensive, slower and older, then I wouldn't even bother...

that kinda speed can be easily achieved with the newest 2.5 inch 7200 rpm hdds and I bet these will cost at least twice the money.
So what these offer are better heat/noise/power consumption figures.

^^ and very importantly for laptops that "idle/sleep" their HDDs:

1./ Zero spin up times
2./ Very low seek times

These points are very important for memory contrained devices where there is virtual memory running.

This is very interesting as the majority of laptop HDDs I've been working recently have been IDE. Very interesting indeed. I'll keep my eyes out for prices.

Can't we just kill off IDE, please?

Can't we just kill off cars older than 3 years. ie. close down all repair shops.

That would boost the failing car companies. LOL

No 3.5" ide yet then :(

I wonder If they'll start to make 3.5" SSDs, so they could fit more chips in there to store our data...

Prices are getting better on IDE, and the "new revision" SSDs are decent speeds too.
