HP Mini 110 Now 720p Ready

HP's flagship netbook, the Mini 110 XP-edition now comes with an optional 1366x768 pixel, 10.1 inch LCD screen. The new screen makes it suitable for 720p HD video, and comes at US $30 over the base-price of $330. The screen is LED-backlit, and comes with an anti-glare coating. The rest of the netbook's base and optional feature remain unchanged. The netbook has to be configured to come with the new screen, and is not really part of a sub-variant. That's not bad. Some things could be said against it, though. The N270 can only barely play 720p (my personal experience) and the pixel pitch might be too small.

that one works 1.66GHz atom w/ 1GB ram at most. Yeah thats a bit weak for 720P playback.

the most expensive mini i could make ended up being $680 and estimated build date of July 20

You should also add that you can choose a Broadcom(R) Crystal HD Enhanced Video accelerator for HD video acceleration. So it should play 720p just fine.

those things only work on actual disks, they dont work on files. its a gimmick.

Pft you whimp! I managed to add it all up to 2300$ + after adding all the perpetuals, software and online support. That way you can save up to 17% !!! :laugh:

Had any experience with the N280? Been wondering if it's worth the upgrade money.

Eh, who knows. Usually the Windows versions come with better options, I'm guessing to try and convince you to buy them. TBH, since I'm used to Ubuntu now, I'd just get the Mi edition, since you can get it with 2GB of RAM. :rockout: (Don't think the RAM is upgradable in these, so the most RAM you can get by default, the better.)

right it comes with software, which does it for it. thats good. Examples of this broad support for movie formats include Matroska™ (MKV), Quicktime® (MOV), MPEG-4 (MP4), Audio Video Interleave (AVI), Windows Media® Video (WMV) and Transport Streams (TS, M2TS). I'll take back what i said: this is an exception, since it comes with software that does the job. That said, unless they made the codecs global, you'll not get this acceleration under linux flavours of the machine, nor will it work in WMP/media center.

It's still got the sub-par Intel GMA950 IGP that is incapable of playing back high-definition video at an acceptable framerate so it makes the 720P capable screen resolution pretty obsolete. It's just another netbook with a higher resolution screen. :banghead:

Nice to see an increase in the screen resolution. 1024x600 that is on most netbooks is kinda lacking.
