Conroe E6700 CPU runs a default clock of 2.66GHz and was almost overclocked an entire 2 GHz. The user Coolar who reported doing this, ran his E6700 at 460MHz FSB on a MSI 975X MB 7246. He used Corsair PC6400 to get this rather large Overclock. Details were vague on what type of cooling mechanism he used.

Another user called Iterations made a nice prediction curve of SuperPI times.

Agreed, I say return the stuff and wait for Conroe. If you have the patience to tough it out you will be much happier. Not to mention you payed 300 dollers for a single core processor.

Agreed.

$300 could have bought you a very nice Opteron single core with 1 mb of L2 (at the least)

I heard somewhere that the 65nm AMD's were going to be AM3's. Maybe...I don't really know, just heard it.

oh hummm, i wouldnt think theyd be on a new platform, then the am2 would be realy short lived, but maybe this am2 is just to try to take some attention away from conroe before they come out with am3, but i dont think theyd make a new platform for 65nm chips

Every article I see about Conroe just keeps getting better and better. I'll bet AMD's chief execs are crapping their pants right now; Conroe is faster than anything they've got. I just hope AMD have something up their sleeve, otherwise by the time AM3 hits the streets, no-one will care.

I'll wager it won't be long before we see mid-range Conroes on water or peltier cooling hitting the 5GHz+ mark with ease.
