VisionTek Introduces High Power USB Charging Hubs

VisionTek Products LLC, a leading manufacturer of award-winning, high-performance upgrades and accessories for PCs and Macs, today announced its new line of high power USB charging hubs that enable charging up to seven Apple iPad, iPhone, Android and Windows tablets, and other USB chargeable mobile devices as fast as the factory power adapter.

The use of multiple mobile devices such as smartphones, tablet computers, and eReaders by families and small business, health care, and restaurant operations is a common daily occurrence. Unfortunately, power adapters for devices can get lost and wall outlets can only charge two devices simultaneously. Typical charging hubs don't offer enough ports and/or enough power per port so extra time is spent waiting for a full charge or worse, only getting a partial charge.

QNAP Releases QTS 4.1.1 Firmware Featuring Full NAS Encryption

QNAP Systems, Inc. today announced the availability of QTS 4.1.1, the new Turbo NAS firmware that features full NAS encryption by volume-based technology to greatly ensure data security in response to increasing cloud security challenges. As the fear of private data being leaked over the Internet is now a prime security concern, the protection provided by Network Attached Storage (NAS) has received great attention, especially for confidential business files and private photos/videos that require high security. However, the shared-folder-level encryption found in traditional NAS does not allow users to encrypt photos, music and videos stored in default shared folders, and therefore can lead to data being easily accessible if the NAS is stolen.

"QTS 4.1.1 ensures the security of data by including full volume encryption that can encrypt photos, music, videos, and documents in every shared folder of the Turbo NAS," said Willy Kuo, product manager of QNAP, adding "QNAP strives to develop the most secure and convenient storage solution and by providing full volume encryption, we can ensure total data security. We strongly recommend that our users use full volume encryption to ensure that their data is completely protected."

AMD "Tonga" Silicon Features 384-bit Wide Memory Interface

In what could explain the rather large die-size and transistor-count of AMD's "Tonga" silicon, compared to "Tahiti," it turns out that the silicon features a 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface, and not the previously thought of 256-bit wide one. The die is placed on a package with pins for just 256-bit, on the Radeon R9 285, but it can be placed on a bigger package, with more pins, to wire out the full width of the memory bus, in future SKUs. This isn't the first time AMD has done something like this. Its "Tahiti LE" chip was essentially a "Tahiti" die placed on a smaller package with pins for just a 256-bit wide memory bus, on the oddball Radeon HD 7870 XT.

What this means is that AMD's next performance-segment graphics card based on the "Tonga" silicon, could feature 50% more memory bandwidth than the R9 285. The stream processor count is still 2,048, but these are more advanced Graphics CoreNext 1.2 stream processors, compared to first-generation ones on "Tahiti," offering more performance per Watt. The TMU count remains 128, although there's no clarity on the ROP count. Estimates are split between 32 and 48. The R9 285 has 32, and so does "Tahiti."
