GSC Game World, publisher of the highly-acclaimed Survival FPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R. title, is glad to announce today that a new project in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is on its way – S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat for PC. Call of Pripyat is the working title of the game, so it might change before the final game is released. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat will become the third stand-alone game from the series. The events in the game unfold shortly after the end of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. Having discovered about the open path to the Zone center, the government decides to hold a large-scale military "Fairway" operation aimed to take the CNPP under control. However, the operation becomes a major fail, and a team of Ukraine Security Service agents is sent to collect information on reasons behind the operation's bad ending. Players will take on the role of an agent, and write their own story from that point on. The title is slated for release in fall 2009. Below are some of the main features of this new exciting game.
- Photorealistic exclusion Zone -- Pripyat town, Yanov railway station, Jupiter factory, Kopachi village and more, recreated by their true-to-life prototypes.
- New story, a number of unique characters.
- Extended system of side quests.
- New monsters: Chimera and Burer. New behaviour and abilities for all monsters.
- New A-Life system, created using the players' best-liked elements of the first two games in series.
- Emissions considerably influence the world of the Zone.
- Sleep function added into the game.
- New player interface.
- Possibility to continue the game after completion in a freeplay mode.
- The game is developed on X-Ray engine v.1.6

Shadowfold brought this to my attention, can't freaking wait!

Oh great another one of GSC bug filled games that's only playable until months after release due to the amount of bugs, I sure won't be buying anymore of their games.
Emissions? They were in Clear Sky and not Shadow of Chernobyl. The emissions stopped at the end of Clear Sky. So, why did they start again?
I hope the sleep system isn't a PITA.

Unlucky for you! I'm stoked, and I've been lucky enough to not have been cursed by many of the bugs.
:D
:D
Yeah, I don't think I was ever hit by a bad bug either. It seems like I thought I did in Clear Sky but it fixed itself.
Oh, no, I think I just didn't play it until it was well patched. ;)

Screenshot looks very nice, esp. long distance detail and sky. Grass still looks funky though. They never quite sorted that out.
I wonder how much we will have to upgrade our machines to play this one... let's hope the game engine uses multithreading to the max so that my non-overclocked 8 core can still burn through the code.
Yay! Happy man now!
8-core?
Wow finally !! What a great news !!
Love the first one, and the second too !!!

by: js01Read the full thing. They have a better company and a dedicated team for beta testing and bug fixing. I honestly wont buy anything but this and Modern Warfare 2 this year. Should be an epic year.

I have retired building systems based on just a single CPU. I build 2cpu systems, which, if you populate with JUST ONE CPU, costs approx $150/EUR150 more to build than a regular enthusiast single socket system. Then, at any point you find a "deal" on ebay, you fill the second socket to double (multi-threaded) performance.
Current rig is one of these:

End of year I'll do a Nehalem EP system. I dont like being at the bleeding edge... typically the second generation of the motherboards for a new CPU is much better than the first... and price premia have narrowed.
It means I'm always 6-12 months behind the leading edge... but with the dual CPU I'm still ahead of the single socket enthusiasts.
Horses for courses. A heavily OC water cooled single-socket enthusiast will out benchmark me on a superpi etc. But I will fully out-crunch them on video editing, encoding, photoshop, numerical solutions, folding, etc. :pimp:
if you look in his specs, he is on a xeon server platform...
I'm sticking with my current hardware. They're gonna optimized it to the fullest and I can already run Clear Sky beautifully with DX10.1 so this should be even better. If not I can wait for the FX80's :D
by: lemonadesodaI don't know... the screeny looks exactly like Clear Sky did for me so I don't think we'll have much (if any) upgrading to do.

I guess my experience with the game was a little better than most peoples. I was able to play through it once without any major bugs. As soon as I started my 2nd go with it TAGES kicked in and now my DVD isn't recognized anymore. :banghead:
In terms of realism, it seems like grass will be one of those things that will always seem funky. Maybe DX12 will introduce better grass
What do you guys think of this ?

yaaaaaaaaaay... Cordon again... :shadedshu
Ever since the First STALKER I was all hyped up. I played the first one admired it and its look then but never got used to the gameplay. I even was bold enough to try STALKER Clear Sky due to its acclaimed graphics. However Clear Sky's graphics is overrated and the gameplay pissed me off. I put that shit on easy and was still getting pwned, not the first time I played an FPS you know and the graphics are weak in my opinion better then most modern games but I actually feel as if Crysis was more optimized then it performance to looks ratio. I respect peoples views on the game and hey as long as you enjoyed it who cares right?
I've got at least 100 hours on each stalker. Good to see they FINALLY added freeplay to this one.. That's what I hated the most about the first two.
by: wolf2009Mind telling me what graphics mods you're using?

by: ShadowFoldI max everything out DX10 lag free. I guess STALKER has some pretty good lighting but the textures suck ass.
