My friend is upgrading to i7 and he is offering me this for 350USD.

- CPU Q6600
- 8GB KINGSTON RAM
- GIGABYTE X38-DQ9 board (crossfire,OC)
- ASUS 8800GT 512MB or 1GB, not sure.

This will be OC'ed to the max.

.Right now I have an AMD rig from 2005 so it's better than mine.
Hows the price ? Does it run all current games on a 22" monitor on normal-high settings ?

Take it, thats a decent deal right there. What case / cpu cooler is included?

Cooler will be Freezer Pro 7, and he is just selling these parts... No case,HD,optical drives..
But I will put it inside a tower Compucase with a TT 600W ToughPower

get it down to $300, HOWEVER your system seems fine, plenty of ram, good psu, dual core is enough, your video card is the problem,,if you are ready to spend that kind of money, buy ATI Radeon 5850 u'll c a better improvement and its less expansive==that is afcors if u mostly play games

its cheap so that is a bonus
the 8800gt will do for a while until you can see what is available from nvidia

Not a bad price at all, +1 for throwing $300 at it first though.

Kinda gives me a direction for when I sell my Q9300 :D

if he has some cash left he should get a Radoen HD 5850 or 5870 that he can play Dirt 2 (included) this christmas on!

Yeah at the price point of the 5850, going NV right now is not a good choice.

Got him down to 300USD and got the rig :)
Q6600
GIGABYTE GA-X38-DQ6
8GB DDR2 + 4GB I have spare total 12GB
ASUS 8800GT

If this is OC'ed to the max, will it be considered a very good, modern desktop ?
Lets say in about 1 year when DX11 games take over and I want to replace my video card, will the OCed 6600 and the 12GB of DDR2 be a bottleneck ? That's what I need to know....

Also regardless of performance, it's a sick deal for 300$ right ?

Yep, very good. Any reason why he's willing to part with it for $300? :P

$300 is a great deal. I don't think you'll ever use 12 gigs of ram though

He's a very good friend, it's like passing your PC to your mom when you upgrade for us :) So the 300 is just to help him with his upgrade - he's not looking for profits

Great deal. The 8800GT isn't that bad for gaming. I have a 9800GT myself and it did Crysis at 1440*900, Very High in the low 20's.

nice price on a good combo. Gotta admit that except for the heat(65nm), the Q6600 is still a great CPU. Go for it man!

Cool Cool ! He ran Resident Evil on that 8800GT on max settings and it was 100% smooth and it's a new game so hey - who cares about the rest right :)

Is that board a good OCer ? Should I be able to take the 6600 to 3.5GHZ with it ?

Once you OC, the only thing you'll likely have to upgrade for the next couple of years is the video card. 8800GT struggles on some of the newer titles a bit. Have to lower a few settings.

I'm assuming your 8GB comes from 4 sticks, if so, to get the best OC, I'd probably just take out 2 sticks for now and go down to 4GB. 8GB isn't really needed for gaming at all.

As far as the board, it's a very solid board. If the cpu is capable of 3.5GHz, the board will get it there.
