starcraft 2. sandbox mode?

i want to know if starcraft 2 has a sand box mode, or maps that are not part of the campain? i am talking about the single player, i dont want to play multi, at least for a long time. i want something like single person skirmish mode in company of heros. thanks!

There is a map editor to create your own maps, but there are hundreds of custom maps already out.
Try looking T Blizzards SC2 forums and there's a whole custom map section.
Plus theres 26 single player missions and a newly released DLC Heart of the Swarm.

I thought heart of the swarm wasn't going to be released until next year? And I thought it would not be DLC but a complete game instead?

Hots was just announced but I'm not sure when its exact release date is. I ws using it more as a reference for more 1st player options.

I hope its fox and not a separate game. Ws far as I know its openly listed under Starcraft 2.

You can always play against computer AI, if that is what you mean. They are not bad for a player gold and below, but once you are platinum/diamond, the AI becomes "stale". Insane AI is still hard to beat, but not impossible. You will need Diamond level of skill to do so.

The way the dev team talks about HoTS you'd swear they never played brood war. Going on about how we don't know about the Zerg and their infighting/etc.

I just hope there's some new multiplayer units. The vanilla game is getting kinda stale. Everyone using the exact same strats, watching the exact same demos.
It feels kinda like WoW, how it stagnated noth PvE and PvP.

Maybe I'm just cranky because I haven't slept since the Vancouver Canucks choked and lost the Stanley Cup.
